Thanks K, I knew you had the JCW SC pulley and the ATI damper, so I was curious what belt you had. Obviously our calculations do not match exactly, but so what. My question was about the proper belt selection, asked and answered.

I'll have to use that...

BTW, I just performed the simple math and determined that the ATI Super Damper # 917992 is actually only 0.88% oversize as compared to stock. Sure this rounds to 1%, but for those exacting types......
Also, not sure why but Way (i.e. WMW) is listing this same ATI part number as a 2% oversize crank pulley. I do not understand that, maybe he can comment, or rather help me understand?? -

I just didn't change the part number on my site, I made it an option on the damper item. But I have both ATI Dampers available. But the one I advertise as 2% was made specially to be 2% larger than stock.
-
Well then, that explains it, thanks for the clarification.

Once the ATI Super Damper’s elastomer O-rings have fatigued beyond the tuning range they were designed for, the shell will not separate from the hub. There will not be a case where accessory drives would cease to function just because the hub is freewheeling. Nor would the crankshaft pulley wobble excessively causing undue vibration. The elastomer O-rings used in the 1% ATI Super Damper are durable beyond what is necessary for our 1.6 liter motor and rpm operating range, expect longer life than generally indicated.

That's kind of what I figured based on what I saw - crank damper disintegration isn't something I'm going to experience again on my MINI. Ever. Good thing.

Share some thoughts and views of your Super Damper now that you have had some time to experience it.
- Any additional vibration damping?
- I believe you mentioned 0.5 whopping lbs of additional boost? (More is better)
- Any change in throttle response due to the lighter rotational load, likely hard to tell.
- BTW, you have a 15% SC pulley as well right? Any trouble with the Napa 060535 belt install?
- Happy you have it? (I am guessing YEAH!)
- etc., etc? -

- Any additional vibration damping?
If any, it is VERY subtle. Possibly a tiny bit less vibration in the steering wheel at idle. But very subjective.
- I believe you mentioned 0.5 whopping lbs of additional boost? (More is better)
Yep. More is better. ;-) Probably .4 to .5 psi at max boost. Not enough to notice on an analog boost gauge - but enough for the ScanGauge and data logging to notice.
- Any change in throttle response due to the lighter rotational load, likely hard to tell.
Not that I notice. I had the new-style OEM damper - so I don't think there's much mass difference (the old style OEM ones were much heavier). The ATI might even be a little heavier than the OEM new style damper. Didn't weigh them, so don't know for sure.
- BTW, you have a 15% SC pulley as well right? Any trouble with the Napa 060535 belt install?
Yep and Yep. I do have a 15%, and the belt was significant tighter to install than the last time I did it. It went on, but it took a heckuva lot of work. Once on and stretched out, I'm still only showing about 80% of one hole on the damper, so it's not appreciably shorter. Perhaps the profile of the pulley plus the added depth for the degree scale makes it harder to slide on?
- Happy you have it? (I am guessing YEAH!)
Given that the alternatives were (a) a non-functional MINI or (b) a new OEM damper destined to fail again at some point, hellz yeah I'm happy. -
Thanks for the report. I have an itchy trigger finger on this item, for insurance purposes. Or maybe assurance and peace of mind.
Since this pulley is 1% larger than stock, that is where the extra belt install effort comes from. But if you still have no more than 80% hole showing than it is fine.
Maybe I misunderstood, but it seemed like you put the belt over the crank pulley last. Man that would be crazy difficult with this config. I always select the tensioner as the last pulley. This way I just need to get the belt over the lip, and then it can slide on the rest of the way. -

Typically I do either the idler or tensioner last. But I had to fight like h3ll and kinda work it on incrementally on two or three pulleys this time... it was THAT tight.
-
Well, since I am destined to get a Super Damper, it looks like I will have a fight on my hands as well. With this configuration it seems that changing a belt would be much easier with two sets of hands.
-
Anyway, mine is ordered, or rather back ordered.
Now, we wait. -
The one that is closest to stock, it is actually 1% larger.
-
I will provide a full report.
