With that info.... WOOHOO no HK for me!!!!!! Praise be to the mini Gods... All my interior trim is chromed out (for now) but find no HK anywhere...
As for a disc changer... In D.B.'s boot there is the tire changing kit and then 2 empty compartments that give access to tail lights...

Whoo hoo! Congrats no HK .... :D

The changer would not be installed unless it was ordered with the car or the last owner had it installed. Your car is wired for it but it's not installed. Also in the right compartment in where the HK amp would be if you had it. Thank God you don't.

If it said "Preparation, BMW 6-CD changer I-bus" (what mine says), that only means there is a cable in the trunk to plug in a CD changer box (not all cars have the cable).

Okay so with that I should have no problems with just swapping out speakers? I may get cheap speakers if that's the case until I got the grand for those focals... Even cheap speakers would be better that the crackling I get now...

RKW... Yes that is what it said...

Either way people don't play CD any longer do they? Where do you even go to buy one besides Walmart?

I do miss going to record stores and flipping through albums and 45's at a mall. Remember those places? Sam Goody

We still have one small local record store called The Mad Platter and they have lots of vinyl.

That's progress and thanks to Apple and iTunes they ruined the retail music business

Shortly after record stores closed, the MALL as we used to know it followed.

But I still like having 8000 songs in one place the size of a pack of gum. :)

Keyword tweeters, Dayton audio mid range, Visaton woofers, custom crossovers and a Pyle amp. Then an additional sound dampening.

You guys are fantastic!!! I have now made my boyfriend a bit happier now that I will temporarily settle for cheap replacement speakers to get me through... No digital music for me either for a bit... just radio and the few CD's I have left in my dwindling collection...

I tried a long time to live without decent tunes in our 2004 MCS. When we bought it had a blown driver's door speaker. We had all the speakers replaced about a year after we bought it. JL all the way. Huge improvement! Worth it totally!

When I got my GP last year it too had a blown door speaker. Again...I tried to ignore it. After traveling 8000 miles last summer I decided it needed to upgraded. I went with an Alpine system, got it to work with the steering wheel controls, added an amp and rear speakers, and some Dynamat here and there. I'm happy with the Alpine R Series speakers, not too pricey, great sound, and they're durable so far. Since the GP's 'front door only' speaker setup lacks I added a pair of 5x8" speakers in the sidewall boot holes with some custom mounts, and that really makes a huge change! Even with a loud burbly exhaust I can hear my tunes!

Hahaha what's with driver side door speakers? That's the one blown in D.B. and the rattle drives me nuts.... I read some reviews and think for my cheap, get through until I run Focals I'm going to get Polk Audio DB651's.... Just start with the fronts...

They are cheap speakers and are not protected from water. Make sure you Dynamat your doors (outer skin and inner door skin) and seal or use a waterproof plastic to keep them dry. I test fit my speakers and made a baffle behind them with think plastic. I sealed them to the door with Dynamat.

The Dynamat will make your speakers sound so much better. It will add a nice low end kick and get rid of that speaker in a tin can sound. You will be able to hear all the music inside you car and not waste audio waves in the doors.

There are still funky sources for tunes.
    Grimey's New & Preloved Music

Todd Snider (video at above site) even gets radio play and is best heard on cheap car speakers.
