I've used Horseless Carriage Carriers before and they are very good. Not the least expensive option there as they are fully enclosed carriers.

 

Seems you can have it one of two ways, cheaply or safe.

I've done both successfully, but if you really care about your car, use the guys Nathan mentioned.

We've used uship.com when looking for horse shippers. Essentially, you put up a post about what you want to ship and where you want it shipped, and multiple companies submit their bids to you.

Not sure how helpful this will be as I cant recall the name of the Transportor. But I shipped my Outback from Central Texas to Key West to my little brother a few years ago. I remember it was "open" transport. I went with the lowest bidder for door to door shipping. If I recall right, it took about two/three weeks for the vehicle to be dropped off. It sat at a "terminal" waiting for enough vehicles headed that way to make a load worth it for them. Which is why they didnt give me a delivery date, just between day x and day y, with hinting towards day x. It was delivered a few days short of day y. Which wasnt an issue for my situation but I could see where it could be.

When they came to pick it up, I got a call 20 minutes out, then a few guys showed up at my house in a F450 with a two car trailer. Apparently thats how they get your vehicle from in the city to a "terminal"? to load it on a tractor trailer. You are suppose to empty out the vehicle, less than an 8th of gas in it, all other fluids at operating levels, if you vehicle leaks, you are suppose to have the leak fixed before transport. Dont know if these were specific to my Transporter or some law/shared standard. I was lucky and they let me put two extra tires inside of it. I think they allowed it because it was just tires (valued at $80 max), no rims. I think I remember having to strap them down in the cargo area before they were okay with it. But if you are planning to load it down with househould items and have it shipped that way, I would definitely make sure the hauler you chose is ok with that. As they may have an issue there.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience, no issues with my vehicle or anything after that. I would definitely choose shipping a vehicle again in a heartbeat, should I need to.

Another is Passport Transport | Vehicle Shipping, Enclosed Car Transport Solutions they are now owned by Fed Ex. They also offer only fully enclosed trucking.

 

I had my classic Mini shipped from Florida (don't remember the carrier) on an open trailer. She got to ride on the top and got rained on a bit but other than that she showed up unscathed and was already off the truck when I picked her up.
