All you have to do on that 06 is take the torx bolts out of both down tubes. The tubes will drop down. Pull the tops of the tubes toward the side of the car & then you will see the screws holding the radio in. Pull them out & pull the radio out. So simple this old fart managed it.

Yes you can buy the MINI aux adapter. Plugs into the back of the radio. Pretty easy install. I have the same setup as you.
I bought mine from Aaron at Outmotoring.

It's a tricky install but can be done.
You have to take off the left side down center console tube to get behind the radio.
In the glovebox by the air vent there is a little plastic rectangular cover that can be removed, I installed the port there and then used a coat hanger thread the cord behind the dash to the radio. -
