I agree there's a few too many unnamed items in that post but I see nothing wrong with not identifying the individual as he or she isn't here to defend or clarify the statement. It's good to identify problems with a community, especially when one so large invades a remote area for a limited time each year, but without knowing more about the problem there's not much we can do.

 

Lets all keep in mind we can only control our own behavior.

Ask them what they think of some of the Harley Groups lol
I bet there are more that get offened by them than are in our mini Group
If you listen to some of the RUB's (Rich urban Bikers) they think there way better than others because the ride a fancy Harley or Custom Built bike ut:

 

Unfortunately, I spend more time with a "muscle car" group than MINI people in my area. I actually find it funny that I can hang out with bunch of guys who drive F bodies, Corvettes, GTOs etc. without a bunch of nonsense. It seems now that so many 1st gen cars are on the used car lots, it allows pretty much anybody to pick one up. The quality of MINI owners has gone down over the past few years. Not saying anything bad about all owners at all. And, yeah, NAM has gone downhill FAST.

 

wonder how many of the "more polite" car clubs took the time to raise over $2,000. in cash and several tons of food for the local food bank

Everyone knows it unfortunately...I think I would be disappointed if I didnt hear of something happening...cuz then it gives you something to laugh about and say "what an Idiot..."
But I digress...
I've never been down to the Dragon, but whenever we hold events we consider ourselves not only owners...but ambassitors for the brand!

 

My guess is that the waitress or who ever said this is a Motorcyclist... From having been a rider and still having a lot of connections to them, there is some anamousity towards the car crowd at the Dragon.. They feel that they found it and we are incroaching on their turf, crowding it up and attracting unwanted attention....That is a Motorcycle only hotel at the foot of it.... So take it with a grain of salt and worry when the businesses up there stop taking your money...rrr:

I went to college in San Diego. Lots of us would go down to Tiajuana for fun and recreation. There were a lot of people there who harbored resentment at those that would play where they lived and worked. The fact that a lot of people just across the boarded really needed the money to live on that was dispensed by those that came to play didn't help at all. And yes, those that behaved worse used more perception "bandwidth" than those that behaved well. Reading the original post really reminded me of that.

Anyway, we'll never know what her real motives or feelings were/are. Best thing to do is to just remind the attendees to behave with respect to the locals, like people should act to each other anyway!

The tonque wasn't from me it was from them, whenever we go some where we should treat the folks who live and work there with respect.

I actually look forward to the Southern hospitality. I think the rest of the country should take lessons from them. I remember going into the Dollar General in Robbinsville, and a family walked out when I was walking in. They said hello.

That never happens in Ohio!

You'll have good and bad people in every group. The MOTD has gotten rather large, I for one miss the heyday myself, and doubt I'll go to the Spring event at all anymore. I much prefer going with a small group in the fall. Between the cops and the drama for the spring event, I've had my fill.

 

Next time you are in the area, do something nice for a local. I was at the Waffle Hut in Robbinsville last time (I love breakfast for dinner) and picked up the tab for a table of cops on their break. They do a job that I'd hate to do myself and take a lot of crap in the process, so it's the least I can do. (Plus, maybe it earned me some good motoring karma ).

The folks that live out there talk more slowly than some other places in the US, but it's amazing how resourceful and thoughtful they are. They know how to get along with others and they know how to be very resourceful. A lot of 'city folk' could learn a lot from almost all of the people I've met out there.

 

I actually make it a point to say hello to someone if I make eye contact with them...... nothing pisses me off more than someone looking at me and not showing some acknowledgment! :mad5:

 

I tend to just go for a head nod/tip of the hat, a lot of people seem uncomfortable with a stranger verbally greeting them for some reason.

 

I prefer a nice "How U Doin" myself

 

I say hello to a lot of folks. Some give me an odd look, but most return the greeting.

Jeremy, folks in Ohio say hello. Maybe not in the larger cities as much, but out in the country there are lots of friendly folks.

 

I tend to do the slight smile and head nod myself.
