Yes, I purchased an extended warranty (3 year/36,000 mile) but it doesn't kick in until 30 days from the date of purchase. I had planned on waiting for my warranty to get it fixed, but when I called the dealership they offered to fix my Mini at no charge, so I wasn't going to turn that down :)

I'm hoping they get it sorted out quickly so I can get my car back! After driving a Mini, nothing compares!

    Thank you for the replies!!!

They have said they're going to fix it. It's been a weird experience because everything they've said has been very helpful, but thy haven't actually fixed the problem. I'm taking my Mini back in today, and the BMW dealership is supposed to do the work on it. I'll call Mini about the warranty, and try to find a customer service number for the Toyota warranty.

Thanks again for all of the help!!

One other thing. don't talk to the salesman he could careless. And don't talk to the service manager either. You need a general manager or higher.

I'm just going to take it to the Mini dealership and pay the damn deductible to get it fixed. The AC is leaking too. No point putting it in the shop two separate times, because the Toyota dealership is only going to fix (if they ever fix it) the not starting issue.

Before taking it to the Mini dealer I believe I would be standing tall in front of the dealerships owner and telling him/her what I thought about their pisspoor customer service and inform him/her of my intentions to pursue it in small claims court. Whether you chose to pursue it or not is up to you, but chances are the owner will honor the threat and possibly set things right. It cost nothing but a little of your time.

They probably put a detergent fuel injector cleaner in it. Probably Techron, or something like it.
Its not a bad preventative, but it is not a fix for dirty injectors, most gas has detergent in it anyway.

When you go back don't ask, nicely demand a write up of the "stuff" they replaced and work they did on your car. Not just part numbers you also need the part names.

Be very firm with a smile and say say it's for your (cough) Father who is a Lawyer and he wants to look over everything to protect his daughter from getting possibly ripped off at a dealership.

You know he just wants to talk care of Daddy's little girl. :)

My advice is just get the car fixed and everything sorted out and enjoy your car for a while before you decide to mod it.

Get to know the car and think about what you would want to be better for you. We can all rattle off a list of things to do to your car but it may not be what's right for you in the end.

Enjoy the ride for now as we can all help you spend money later. (Start saving) :D

No, they definitely said I had to take it to a Mini dealer. I specifically asked if I could take it anywhere I chose to have it worked on, and the finance guy (he was kind of a jerk) said "sure, but the warranty won't cover it"

Anyway, I haven't found the paperwork on the warranty yet. I've gone through everything they gave me and I don't have a contract for the warranty. Financing for the warranty hadn't been technically approved when I signed everything else for the car (I got it on a Saturday) and the finance guy was supposed to call me on Monday with an answer on the warranty (approved or not) but didn't because apparently he went on vacation for the week and failed to let anyone know I was expecting a phone call. When I called on Tuesday to check in the warranty, the other finance guy let me know I was approved, but didn't say anything about sending me a contract so I really don't know. I may never get it. They might mail it to me next week. I have no clue.

I'm just going to suck it up and drive 2 hours to the Mini dealership.

Unless the Toyota dealership bought you a MINI USA Extended Warranty, their story isn't adding up. You are past any MINI warranty (unless it already had a MINI extended warranty).

You should call MINI USA and check. Give them your VIN, and they can tell you if your car still is under coverage. That is the ONLY warranty that would be "MINI dealership only."

How to reach a live person:
Speak "customer service" at the first opportunity to state an option.

This has always worked for me. Call the BBB and see about filing a complaint. Then call the dealer ask to talk to the owner or the manager(get the highest person you can). Advise them that a complaint is being filed with the BBB and you except this matter to be taken care of in a timely manner. You want everything in righting and you want the old parts, unless it is taken to a MINI dealer to be fixed.
Even if they are not part of the BBB they do not like complaints filed on them. Also call Toyota NA and lodge a complaint agents the dealer. This is really bad news for the dealer. To many complaints to toyota and they can loss the franchise.

Be respectful but firm. keep them on the phone till you get a resolution. This has gone way to far. Make sure they know you have called Toyota NA to complain about your treatment.

    Good luck.

Oh man. I've been reading this thread here and there, I'm sorry you're having such bad luck right now. I hope the MINI dealer get it straightened out. A fun car like this should not be stuck in the service bay too long!
