    Welcome to MA and MINI-ownership!

What kind of dealership did you buy it from? MINI or something else? Regardless, they must make it right.

Went to the casino, eh (Lake Charles?)? You do like to gamble, don't you. ;-)

Presuming you are in Beaumont/Port Arthur, there's lots of good MINI folk in the Houston area. Join up with them for a get-together! Minis love company.

    Welcome to MA :cornut:

So, was kinda confused at first, you said you guys, or he had, driven a Supercharged Mini and he liked it, so why didn't you pursue in buying one of those models?

About your car, there have been a few recalls on it, make sure the dealer has verified that they have been done? Believe the "High Pressure Fuel pump" was one of them, and, the "Timing chain", had one also. It's super common to have a bunch of codes stored, when people come into my mechanics shop and he checks the codes, always a bunch of them stored, as long has your, "check engine light" is not on, or other warning lights are not on, don't worry about them, just have the dealer reset the computer, and go on from there

Good luck with your car and make sure you check the oil frequently, has they have a tendency to use some oil.

I said he's right about cars!! And he better be! He's a mechanic/manual machinist/mechanic genius lol. And his dad is a mechanic. I have some very reliable men at my disposal.

Also, I'm still learning this website and it's difficult to navigate on a phone, so for the person that asked why we didn't get the supercharged one: my boyfriend thinks the turbocharged MINI performs better.

For the casino question: Vinton and Lake Charles. Vinton is closer, but the casinos in Lake Charles are better. I feel like the slots let me play a bit more in lake Charles.

Now, to the dealership comments: I'm aware of the extended warranty on the hpfp and the tensioner chain. I told the dealership about it. They obviously didn't listen to me. I got my car from Kinsel Toyota in Beaumont, and up until now (my car still won't start after their "fix") my experience at the dealership had been great.

And also for the quoted comment above: the dealership said they changed the spark plugs when they got the car, and that had fixed it. It obviously didn't, but that goes back to my original concern about the fix: they're just trying to hold me off until my warranty kicks in.

This whole experience has turned into a real nightmare. I'm hesitant to put any money into my car to personalize it because it seems like it's going to be in the shop all of the time!

Also, my boyfriend could fix it, and at this point is rather have him working on ot because I know he's competent, but I spent almost $4k on an extended warranty and didn't expect to get jerked around like this!

Well, I'll be taking my car back to the dealership after work today. I excited to see which crappy loaner car I'll get stuck in.

When your extended warranty kicks in does it allow you to take it to any shop of your choosing? If so take it to a Mini shop. your dealer does not know what they are doing.
For the extended warranty on the hpfp and the tensioner chain you will have to take it to a Mini dealer to have it covered.

You boyfriend should have no problem working on your Mini, me and the rest of these old farts have done fine doing our own work. We are here to help.

The R53(SC) vs R56(turbo) mini can be a fun debate around here. We have some real R53 die hards. Just because I have a R53 doesn't mean I'm one of those die hards.Ok maybe a little.:lol:

Everything after My boyfriend is always right does not count. I guess thats why my wife never tells me I'm right any more.

I have to take it to a mini dealership. The closest is almost 2 hours away, so that's a huge pain. I wish I could take it anywhere because my boyfriends dad actually has a shop, and works on the cars that the dealerships "certified" techs can't fix. I trust him waaayyyy more than I trust anyone else to fix my car. Like I said; I have some very reliable gentlemen to work on my car (and some very friendly gentlemen to help me on here, which I appreciate greatly!!) but I was told that if I have anyone other than a certified mini tech work on my car, that it voids the warranty. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, quick question about warranty: my wonderful boyfriend wants to do some modifications to my car (let me just say now that I am kind of indifferent about engine mods, but will relay information to him. He has encouraged me to do my own research, but I guess the motivation is t there for me. I like the way my car runs, and I'm not sure I really want it to go faster or whatever he has in mind, but advice on that is welcome.) will modifications like replacing the inter cooler or anything hurt my warranty (he's named off a very long list of things we could do to my car, but I didn't pay that much attention, and inter cooler is about the only thing I remember. Might not even be accurate.)

I have nothing against your supercharged mini btw!! I am only the messenger!

And my boyfriend is pretty much only ever right about cars or other manly stuff. So, I give him credit where I can. :p

He should probably be the one navigating the forums lol.

So do you have an extended MINI warranty or an Aftermarket warranty?

If it is an aftermarket warrnty you should be able to go where you want...
    Check the contract.....

My advice is just get the car fixed and everything sorted out and enjoy your car for a while before you decide to mod it.

Get to know the car and think about what you would want to be better for you. We can all rattle off a list of things to do to your car but it may not be what's right for you in the end.

Enjoy the ride for now as we can all help you spend money later. (Start saving) :D

The warranty is through Toyota and the finance manager at the dealership told me I would have to take my car to a MINI dealership to get it worked on.

    Maybe I shouldn't have gotten a MINI at a Toyota dealership? -_-

And I don't have a contract. I just have a paper that states the terms and cost. I'll dig through my files and see if I can find anything else, but that's all I remember having for the warranty.

Try and find that paperwork....Seems odd that you would have to go to a MINI dealer for the aftermarket warranty.....Check into that before you have to drive 2 hrs

I also got my MINI from a Toyota dealer and always took my car to the MINI dealer when it was under the factory warranty.

Show the paperwork to your BF's dad's shop. They can find out if it honors their work on the car. I have never heard of an aftermarket warranty that required you to take it to the manufacturer dealership. The finance guy may have just been saying that THEY (the Toyota dealership) don't work on MINIs.

There is no 'magic' involved in working on MINIs.

No, they definitely said I had to take it to a Mini dealer. I specifically asked if I could take it anywhere I chose to have it worked on, and the finance guy (he was kind of a jerk) said "sure, but the warranty won't cover it"

Anyway, I haven't found the paperwork on the warranty yet. I've gone through everything they gave me and I don't have a contract for the warranty. Financing for the warranty hadn't been technically approved when I signed everything else for the car (I got it on a Saturday) and the finance guy was supposed to call me on Monday with an answer on the warranty (approved or not) but didn't because apparently he went on vacation for the week and failed to let anyone know I was expecting a phone call. When I called on Tuesday to check in the warranty, the other finance guy let me know I was approved, but didn't say anything about sending me a contract so I really don't know. I may never get it. They might mail it to me next week. I have no clue.

I'm just going to suck it up and drive 2 hours to the Mini dealership.

    Maybe I missed it, but...

what year MINI is it, what model (S or non-S), and how many miles are on it?

    We're all pulling for you!

P.S. The Toyota dealer ought to haul (not tow) your car to the MINI dealer.

They sold you a car that wouldn't start three or four days later. THEY need to take care of you, or you should be prepared to 'lawyer up'.

Unless the Toyota dealership bought you a MINI USA Extended Warranty, their story isn't adding up. You are past any MINI warranty (unless it already had a MINI extended warranty).

You should call MINI USA and check. Give them your VIN, and they can tell you if your car still is under coverage. That is the ONLY warranty that would be "MINI dealership only."
