I don't want to defend bad behavior. But what happend to the time when men could slap each other around. Go cool off then shake hands, apologize and move on. Some times you end up good friends. I know if some one puts their hands on me we are going to have some fun. When it over its over I don't need someone to step in for me. But now if you fight back your in trouble to. The producer should have beat the crap out of him and that should be the end. That would stop Clarkson bad behavor.
Too many Nannys! Clarkson needs to apologize and the producer needs to be a man and accept it.
Man rereading this I relize I'm getting OLD!-

Agreed. It's how you treat people that are lower (lower doesn't imply better or worse, just lower) on the ladder than where you currently are standing that defines you IMHO. Just because you can act like an an ass and treat someone like crap doesn't mean you should. His behavior was inexcusable; the lack of contrition is bothersome. I'm rapidly losing respect for him. A simple apology and this goes away. Instead, he's chosen to attack the BBC and deflect all blame, and completely redefine the issue. Coward.

To be honest, I think that the show (which was the best automotive show by a factor or 10) has run its course. After all these years, I think they are struggling to find that original spark that they had. I wouldn't be surprised if JC is happy to have it end.
I was also amused to read in an article that it was the highest-rated 'Fact Based Show'. Fact based? Watching Top Gear for good information on cars is like watching The Simpsons for good information on being a parent. Nonetheless, I'll miss it.
For those who have been living under a rock, please look up the new bard of automotive enthusiam: Chris Harris. He's not funny like JC, but he reminds us of why we do this.-

I think most of that driving through bad areas stuff was simply to stir the pot, since the underlying theme is a bit more serious. The underlying message, and it's what many suspected, is that he's simply bored with it. A show like this has a finite course, and for him, it's run it. When it becomes more of a repetitive chore, which it sounds like it has been for him for quite some time, it's time to move on.
And I'm guessing that's what's underneath the outburst. The "cold food" was just the trigger, the real reason was he's frustrated trying to do the same thing over and over in a new way, and he finally let loose over something trivial. At least he's come out with it instead of letting the BBC take the fallout, although I'm not sure how much difference it'll make.-
