Because he bit the hand that fed him. Short term or long term Top Gear will be over without him and the other two will not do the show without him.
Remember this is not American issue, it's a british issue and its a british show, so our opinions do not matter one bit. The BBC will do what they want when they want to they are the ones that will have to decide if the MILLIONS in profits are worth the problem.

Yeah you are missing my point. Jeremy with the others make that show and without them they have nothing.

I'm not defending His actions. But I have a job where I get to hotels at odd times with no food. It can be frustrating to say the least. I once had a moron tell me that a hand full of snaks was all I needed to eat. I had not eaten since dinner the night before and would not get to my destination till lunch time. He should be glad he said it over the phone.
The producer should have had food and Clarkson should not have acted the way he did.
No I am not captian Obvious -

If they know a special is running late, like they always do, they can absolutly schedule a contingency plan. That's what cell phones and assistant producers are for are for.
Come on this is a big TV show not some little PBS show. -

Per that paragon of news, CNN: "Top Gear" host Jeremy Clarkson's contract will not be renewed, the BBC said after an internal investigation into what it earlier called a "fracas" with a producer.

I don't see James and Richard coming back, so it looks like another re-boot like when the 3 of them became a trio in 2002. I don't think this is bad, I liken it to late night talk shows (you have iconic host that many say can't be replaced and yet they are and the shows continue on).
I could see something like this working:
Journalist - Chris Harris
Entertainer - Chris Evans or Jay Kay
Race Driver - One of the Chilton brothers
I could also see adding a female presenter as well (Susie Wolfe comes to mind). -
