In honor of today, April 22, being Earth Day I thought it would be nice to see what we all do, if anything, to be Green. Motoring Alliance uses a server powered by wind sources when possible. The building housing the servers also uses geothermal heating and cooling. Physical mailings are sent in packaging made with recycled materials. On a more personal note I recycle cans, bottles, paper and the like. I petitioned the HOA in my neighborhood to allow us to use a patio compost bin, add solar tubes to the roof to light interior rooms and add solar powered attic fans. I also try to visit farmers markets to purchase locally grown produce and meat. What do you do?
I do not drive or ride any vehicle that uses fossil fuels. For today reduce water usage by 1/2 normal.
I just turned off a light! I also drive a MINI, mulch grass clippings, have a compost pile and actually use it, converted to CFLs, recycle cans, have a veg garden, gave house an HVAC check-up, etc.
Oh yeah, I don't commute to work either... I've also been on this kick where I put all the devices like the TV, DVR and the like on switched outlets to fully shut them off. Saved close to $10 on the last bill doing that at my $0.15kw/hr rate.
I installed a rain barrel to collect rain water to use for watering plants. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We make stainless steel countertops and instead of a wood core, we use a certified zero formaldehyde product made from 100% recovered and recycled fiber (It also saves trees!). All of our metal scrap is recycled. Switched company truck from big V8 gasolene to turbo 4 cylinder diesel. Switched out the hot water heater to an "on demand" heater. At home Switched to CFL, mulch grass clippings, seperate paper, glass waste for recycle. Drive a MINI. Changed the washer to a low water useage unit. Changed all the shower heads to low flow units. Each toilet has 2 bricks in the water tank for displacement.
I fixed that, but I'm still chasing a bug where when I use quick reply it creates a duplicate...sometimes. And...while I don't commute, I do work, if you want to call what I do work. It's way to much fun to be work, but I do get paid.
Earth Day/Green :cornut: I reload my empty brass shell casings and recover the lead to mold new bullets Jason
I don't celebrate any holiday that does not involve gratuitous consumption of alcohol. Seriously, I don't see a point of Earth day. You either care and do what you feel is right every day, in which case you don't really need a pat on the back, or you don't. To me it's in the same class as Valentine's day.
We compost, both yard and stuff from the kitchen. Recycle plastics, paper, all cans, cardboard, glass bottles. 2 stage toilet, lots of insulation in the attic. We drive 2 MINIs, I have a short commute, wife works from home. Lots of CFL, everything else is on dimers. I use my scooter as much as possible, but I'm a fair weather scooterer. Most of our perennial plants are from seed, have planted trees and encourage volunteer trees to grow, we grow tomatoes, herbs, and hot peppers, plus some indoor stuff. I drank locally brewed, picked up at the brewery(no shipping)beer today Marks
