Earth Day? I did it right! I flew a whole fleet of jumbo jets from Washington, DC to NYC, and disrupted the NYC airspace for several hours, so many other jets had to circle for a while or idle on the tarmac, burning thousands of tons of fossil fuels and wasting tens of thousands of hours of otherwise productive time for my citizens. We used our whole fleet of monster black SUVs and my 10,000 pound limo, too. None of which are hybrids. Oh yeah, and while at the photo op, I made a speech that I could have given back home thanks to the miracle of television. Which included the line "And as we're taking unprecedented steps to save energy and generate new kinds of energy for our homes and businesses, we need to do the same for our cars and trucks." And damn, did I look good.
I think the main purpose of Earth Day is to serve as a reminder to some, and a means to educate others. The media tends to air green stories around Earth Day which can increase awareness of green issues. You could say it has similarities to Valentine's Day which serves as a reminder to some that they should do something special for their S.O. However, Earth Day also has the educational aspect.
Just as encouraging someone to do something special for their S.O. one day out of the year, educating others about "green" issues for just one day servers no purpose except to make those doing the preaching feel good about themselves. Just my feelings about it.
Who says the preaching only happens one day per year? It is just a means of making it a general topic. What's wrong with reminders?
Forgot to mention, we had a new A/C unit installed, so far we have saved huge amounts on our electric bills, as it has not been hot enough here to use it:rolleyes5: Mark
