I quick update from me.....I pulled off the old tape as it finally was getting really ragged looking and actually sprayed the beltline with Plastidip black and boy does it look better than the tape. And so far it has stood up to the elements better. Took a bit more time to do as you have to mask the car to paint it, but you will love the results.
I even did the rain gutter around the roof as well and it really looks good. The rain gutter was getting really faded out and hard to keep looking black. But with a couple of coats of the Plastidip it looked better than original.
Only real tip you need is that you will need to score/cut the plastidip at the tape line as the plastidip is a rubber and it will tend to pull off the surface when you try and remove the masking tape.

Thanks, I haven't tackled the beltline yet as the headlight trim took me most of the day. Octane Guy posted that you can use Black Wow on the plastidip, so that is a bonus!

I've had the OutMotoring tape on mine since new. Been through a lot and still looks pretty good!
I think I had just cut it 1/2" longer each piece (each side) and applied it. I then went back and took the clear piece off, and to finish Xacto'd the remaining. -

I have taken some pic's but to tell the truth you can't really see anything from them. Only way to really see how it looks is to try it yourself. You can always easily remove the Plastidip after it dries. This is actually the reason I tried it in the first place.
And one other advantage.....you can very easily touch up the Plastidip if it gets damaged. -
whats the best way to get the tape off once you have it on for a few months..I need to redo mine cause it didnt turn out as good as I wanted..

I used a heat gun on low and was VERY careful not to get the tape to hot as it would tear. You need to get it just hot enough to pull off, but not hot enough to start stretching it.
Then you can use some solvent to get the left over adhesive off and prep it for the Plasti-dip! -
Here is a shameless plug/ link to more product info if anyone is interested in doing the Blackout Beltline mod:

Thanks Aaron. I blacked out my '04 using the tape Outmotoring supplies and after 3 years and 106,000 miles it still looked good. My '09 has the same tape from Aaron, now on for 2 years and 58,000 miles and it too still looks good. The secret when installing it is not to stretch the tape. Use just enough tension to keep it straight and remove the outer clear protective film AFTER the tape has been installed for at least 8 hours.

Just started this. It took 30 minutes just to do the boot section. The hardest part was getting the clear top piece to come off. Then when I got it off, I was wondering why I bothered since the tape is glossy just like when the clear piece is on there. Also ended up with quite a few bubbles so I'm hoping those will work out with time.

I used #33 Black Electrical Tape, easy peasy.

Did the beltline black out last year around this time.
The pics are from just before MTTS (hence the DENVER-OR-BUST sticker on the bumper) -
anyone have any close up shots of the ends?
