FYI the BavTech tool will work on more then one car.

All you have to do is NOT register your VIN with the software. :ihih::idea::Thumbsup:

I have used mine BavTech Sw on at least 20+ MINI's.

Curious, if anyone has any updates on this one or if there are better ones. The reviews are "overall" strong, but there is one in particular which discussed the limited action on an E30 which is a similar generation to my 88M5.

The other one many folks mention is the BavTech ones:
    http://www.bavariantechnic.com/
This seems nice, but won't go back to the 88 and doesn't work on 3rd Gen or newer Mini's.

Also looking at the BavAuto ones:
    https://www.bavauto.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Code+Reader

I would prefer a stand alone compared to needing to have it hook to a PC/laptop. That said, I can deal with that if it makes more sense.

Yes, I realize my Dashcommand (or other similar solutions) can pull and reset many of the codes. I've already used it for that. I'm looking at some of the more advanced features like being able to run the test of certain functions, injector tuning etc.

    Thoughts? Am I missing one?

The BavTech tool did not come with instructions but it was easy enough to figure out. I found that the USB / OBD2 cable was sometimes tricky to get the PC to communicate with BavTech tool.

I just gave my old netbook with the older BavTech software on it to my buddy yesterday since he has a cable but BavTech Sw does not support the lastest version of Windows with updates he added.

I bought the dvd rom version of the Bentley manual for my new to me 2008 VW Passat, it needed a Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer to be able to view it. I tried compatibility mode on my Windows 10 computer and it was a no go.

I ended up making an old windows Vista laptop into a Windows XP computer, so I can now view the shop manual.
What a pain in the butt!

Couldn't agree more - working through that right now. Turns out none of the battery's work on my old stash of laptops.. so have to figure that one out.

Agree - these are the old IBM machines. Just have to look the battery up and put a HD back in them. I have to much computer stuff in my house it appears.

I have a brand new old HD that may work if you need it. I will see what kind it is when I get home.

So I guess the wife's family can look forward to a stomach pumping sensation later?:D

I just hope I get back home. I was scheduled to get home at 11:10PM tonight but the plane broke and is in rout to Bogota now then another crew brings it to Panama where we pick it up. Now I won't get back till 1:30am. I just hope it doesn't brake agin.
