On a different note......we had the pleasure of hosting Mike and Jay today at Custom Mini Shop for a Byetronic Full Access, hope I spelled that right, tutorial. All I can say is :eek6: Jay is "THE MAN" when it comes to ECU access and tuning. He showed comparisons to the other software out there.........people there is NO comparison out there. Like my bud Fracky said, "it's like the Matrix" Fun day was had

If you tune my car to the maximum output with everything running in range including the injectors (not maxing out) and you then put larger injectors ( nothing else) in it, and then tuned it again would you be able to get more power out of it; make more power than the previous tune? -

Only if the original injectors couldn't achieve the "perfect" tune would you need to use the larger injectors.
Does that make sense? -
N2MINI MINI of the Month
Well said Mr. Jim
I believe he was just TRYING to get Mike to say that.. Admitting that just by adding the 550's you will not necessary gain power.. Only if you actully need the extra cc's would you gain HP.. They are pushing the 550's in a BIGGER IS BETTER way and you may not need them... The plus side for them selling them is you will HAVE to have a tune for the car to run right.. So by selling the 550's they also get a tune out of it as well...
If you need them great, if not your probably good with what you have already.. -
If Myne's came out with a 100% bulletproof package that gave 250 WHP, the usual suspects would bash it.
It makes perfect sense to go with the 550's, IF you're maxing out a smaller sized injector. I remember way back when, when Jan used to say all you need is 440's, that 550's were overkill. That has changed. It's not a knock on Jan, he's adapted.
This is such an easy concept, the arguments posted here are going beyond the esoteric. There's a ton of snow where I live. Given the choice of a snow blower or plow, which should I choose? I could use a snowblower, but it's gonna stress it out to the point where it's probably going to malfunction at some point. Guess the plow would be better. When there isn't much snow, the plow is overkill, the snowblower works just fine.
There is a whole other area to this that hasn't been touched on: you're probably best off putting in the injectors that your tuner has the most experience with tuning, and is most comfortable with. So if you're getting a Myne's tune, do the 550's and be done with it. It's not a price issue, it's not like they're recommending something that's going to be more expensive than 380's or 440's, so what exactly are we arguing about?
If you're going with another tuner, 380's or 440's may be just fine for your application. Each car is different, and depending on who is tuning, and the power your car is laying down, a smaller injector may be just fine, especially if that given tuner is most comfortable scaling that particular injector, right?
IMHO (and I have never worked with or bought anything from Myne's, although I do respect what they do, they're just too damned far away), you got the usual naysayers that are going to take issue with Myne's no matter they do, just as you have the usual naysayers that will take issue with RMW no matter what they do. It's predictable, somewhat saddening, and entirely boring. Why does this have to get so contentious over something that's relatively so minor? -
Not to open a Pandora's box lol but RC Fuel Injection would say differently about the use of larger injectors. In the past I have used some RC ??0cc saturated injectors before the thought of 550cc in the MINI with no real noticeable difference over other suppliers of similar size. MY first reaction to the thought of 550cc injectors for the MINI was that the need for this size was overkill. But after talking to RC about the use of 550cc injectors was told by them this is a common practice for gaining horsepower in the Sub-compact in Asian as well other German engines. What RC said is that you can have a ECU adjusted by scaling them for idle and WOT that there are gains to be made. They also said the the choice of the Bosch injector specifically the ones being offered by MYNES was a better choice for street engines needing better idling properties over their own Saturated style injectors designed primarily for race engines.
Here is the contact information that I am sure MYNES will not mind I give out? RC Injectors no longer carries the short style Injector needed to fit in the MINIs fuel rail so they are not a competitor to MYNES but a helpful information source for injectors and willing to answer any questions.
Check it out with them?

#6 says that the Bosch injectors atomize the fuel better, and that one key point is worth HP. The HP may not be directly related to the size of the injector, but rather what the performance that particular sized injector offers.
In the end, HP is effected by more then how much fuel is put into the engine. -
Not arguing at all. I haven't said anywhere that there is anything wrong with the Bosch 550 injectors, their good pieces no doubt! But #6 & #7 do not address my question on weather installing larger injectors on a properly running and tune'd car will in themselves allow a tuner, any tuner to extract more performance or power if you will, from a MINI motor.
Yes? No? .....or? -
shop, this remote tune is The Bomb! There is no other remote tune that can touch thisGive Mynes a call.

Dude... the answer is yes installing larger injectors under appropriate engine operating conditions will increase performance levels.
How much clearer does it need to be for you?
"There are to many variables to establish any constant or predictable number". This statement was actually from Venom Performance another fuel injector company.
mark try actually getting off the MINI forum and contact 1 or 2 fuel injector manufactures and learn from their experience?
VENOM High Performance does not have currently have any short style fuel injectors needed to fit in the MINIs fuel rail so they are not a competitor to MYNES but a helpful information source for injectors and willing to answer any questions.

Mynes is not promoting to use ANY larger injector to see increased performance, they are pushing the 550's. Your question IS answered.
I think you have entered yourself in that state of being "that annoying poster", and doing so, have moved yourself down the priority list. He himself pointed you to #6 & #7 for a reason i believehint hint hint hint

And there's a lot of you with your MINIs tuned, how about sharing some of your dyno graphs with AFRs? -
Mr. Jim MudsharkLifetime Supporter
But those are alot of "if's" in your question. Can we put this dead-horse to rest?

A dynojet which you use ISN'T going to do it.........opcorn:
