Hey, what you do on your own, well thats just your problem. If you are startled by a horn because you were not paying attention and ride off the road... Well thats just funny.

I was run off the road a few times when I rode in early highschool... Got up and laughed at it... Didn't get all bent out of shape at the driver of the car... Didn't throw a tantrum on a forum about it...

Sucks that people you know have died... Thats a chance you take though when you mix people on bicycles going 5-10 miles an hour, with cars that weigh 2000+ pounds moving at 40+ MPH... All it really takes is one of them to not be paying any attention. Could actually be either rider or motor vehicle operators fault... And when car meets bike, the car always wins. Yet another reason for the bike rider to be aware of their surroundings and not be in the middle of the road.

As for being a "moron"... Well you can have your opinion, hell everybody is entitled to their own. But you know what Mr. Cricket... In my opinion after you feel the need to resort to name calling, you can get your porno shorts out of your tramp stamped car, jump on your little banana seat and try riding your bike pom pom's hanging out the handlebars and all down the middle of I-70... Let me know how that turns out for ya...

It's all really simple. Consideration for others. If on a bike or walking on a public road then don't ride/walk down the middle of the lane.

Same in a car, give the walker/biker a wide birth.

It's not hard, it's not worth the sillyness going on in this thread.

Therefore since ya'll can't show consideration for others I'm closing this thread.

    One a side note....

This is the second thread that has been closed since the Gov't shutdown started. Before that it has been many months since a thread has been closed. I'm seeing a pattern here.

M/A is supposed to be fun and friendly, stop the carp.

You should see some of the idiots on their bikes in the mountains here... They think they own the entire road, and dont care to get out of your way either. Some just stay right in the middle of the lane pedaling up hill at 2 MPH, jamming out on their iPod...

I am not afraid to give them a little toot out of an air horn to wake them up though. Made one or two ride into the ditch in my life, and really couldnt care less about it.

They keep trying to regulate cars around the cyclists... What they need to start doing is regulating the cyclists to bike paths and bike lanes that is what they are there for! Start handing out tickets with fines equal to motor vehicle violations for tying up traffic on the roads that where built for cars!

Do you even know the law? Bicycles have as much right to the road as a car. Yes, we are supposed to keep as far right as possible, but, we are allowed to use as much road if it is not safe to the right. Also, at least here in California, it is illegal for a vehicle to get within 3 feet of a bicycle, and, it's also illegal to honk your horn for no reason. Now, this being said, if a biker is being stupid, illegal, well that's on them. But to treat all bikers as bad, well, that's on you.

Ps. anyone saying bikers don't pay road taxes is just ignorant.

I knew I would piss at least one person off...

If you read, I do not have a problem with the ones who follow the laws, and are respectful of the people in cars.

Both my wife and I ride bikes....

I have to deal with the errant riders around work....

I'll stick my neck out a say that the one's in the Short North pretty much all run through the red lights....

Do all bike riders do this... Nope.... My wife and I don't...

What really is bad are the ones that ride on the sidewalk and end up clipping a customer that steps out on the sidewalk from a merchant's shop...

Roads are maintained by general revenues in most states. Property taxes. Gasoline taxes pay for highways in most cases.

Sorry. Bicycles are required by law in most states to ride as far to the right as PRACTICABLE, and they may take the center of the lane if it's less than 12' wide. Big difference.

I teach cyclists to never ride closer than 4 feet from the road edge, usually about six. Believe it or not, the result is safer bicycling and happier motorists (when overtaking a cyclist in the lane, a motorist will commit to changing lanes to pass... as they would any other slow moving vehicle, resulting in reduced stress for everyone).

Read all about it here: i am traffic

As for the cyclist in the video. She exemplifies what's wrong with cycling. She is inattentive (just like many motorists), she flaunts the laws (just like many motorists), and law enforcement pretty much lets them get away with it.
