So I blew my head gasket today. Anyone know of where I can get a multi layer steel head gasket? Might as well do it all right from the start. 2008 MCS Turbo
anywhere... a quick search on autozone's website as well as rockauto.com bring nothing but MLS results. Did you attempt to search parts stores yet??
Found it on rockauto.com. auto zone and advance auto are both a no go. Neither have them. Yes it is definitely a head gasket. I stopped in the road and it poured out a puddle of a nice slimey mix of oil and coolant. Didn't find any on waymotorworks.com.
You may have to go Copper instead of steel, don't know if there as easy to find as our gen 1's though.
Also, don't forget, when it comes to Way, Chad, Helix and our other favorite vendors, just call them, just because something isn't up on their website, doesn't mean they don't have a way to get it.
If you're going to do it right from the start, get the head machined flat and talk to your machinist before you buy a new gasket. You can usually get head gaskets in varying thicknesses, depending on how much material was machined off the head. If you have more than 100k on the motor, you might benefit from a valve job, and you should certainly get that head cleaned well while it's off to get rid of any carbon deposits. I looked into this a few months ago when I thought I'd blown my head gasket. Turned out to be a rogue oil analysis. Prices weren't bad - $78 to clean, pressure test, and resurface the head, plus another $75 if I didn't want to remove and replace the cam myself.
Are you really running boost that much higher than stock to need a metal HG? I have never heard of BHG's being common on these engines so I would assume that the stock HG holds pretty damn well.
My brother and I plan to do a full valve cleaning job as well as porting and polishing the head and machining it. We're just gonna take our time and get it all done good. Its highly likely that I will be installing a 10lb NOS tank....
I will b at the dragon as long as my POS is running lol. Wish I'd done my research before buying the 2008
