Anyone else see this news? BMW Recalls Vehicles for Potential Fire Hazard - Driver's Seat - WSJ The description is almost identical to many of the recent spate of online reports of 2nd Gen fires originating in the area of the axillary water pump. I'm predicting that this will be extended to MINI in the near future. Edit: A NYT article with a bit more detail: http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/31/bmw-recalls-32000-high-horsepower-models-for-fire-hazard/
Hmmmm,,, BMW's with 8 or 12 cylinders, I would love to see a v12 MINI! It only makes since in evolution after the Hemi MINI.... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my_J7lmd_-4]Hemi-Powered Mini Cooper - YouTube[/ame]
I would like to try the Hartley V8 in a Mini - this is two Suzuki Hayabusa engines made into a V8. Sure it has 'only' 200-250 ft.lb but it has that all the way from 3,000 to 10,000 rpm. And 400hp top end has to be enough. Unlike the Hemi, it might fit under the bonnet/hood.
That's the ugliest BMW or at least it's up there IMHO..... So it's got a built in default..... "KILL IT WITH FIRE", pretty cool..... Now fix the MINI fire issue.... That's the one that's unacceptable IMHO....
Lets see if the braintrust at NHSTA can connect the dots. Rolls Royce is recalling 2010 Ghost over possible engine fires.
Yeah.... Jumping on the RR issue first..... They have the big bucks to sue the pants off BMW.... What??.... You think we're next in line? HAHAHAHAHAHA Oh, and before you ask..... Canada isn't a part of this recall program.... You guys are gonna appreciate the extra heat this winter.....
Back in 2002 we ditched our VM Eurovan after spending nearly $10K over 3.5 years in maintenance. One interesting thing we noticed that in our community newspaper, the North Shore News, almost every single vechile fire that was pictured, was for a VW. We felt some strange sense of smugness knowing we no longer owned a firetrap.
