Anyway, the way to find that out is to take one apart and see. Work back from the dimensions. While it's got a decent life, it's not the best made part on the car....

Oops sorry Matt. I was hoping somebody had one in hand and had the part #(Keith perhaps). I've yet to see one fail-yet. Probably a good call to change the idler bearing or whole pulley and bearing while doing a belt change around 75-100k as a matter of course.

I'm sure if you offer up a lighter rendering and keep parasitic drag to a minimum with a larger more stout bearing then people will flock to it!

Sometime I'll take mine off to check...

I screwed around with the model a bit. Even built a roller bearing that can take axial loads!


And a print out of this vaporware will be very, very light! As far as minimizing mass, I'm not any good at the FEA part of the software. Most aftermarket guys tend to overbuild for just this reason. This design uses two roller bearings, and a spacer so you'll be able to torque the crap out of the mounting bolt and not screw it up. But as of now, it's just an idea....

The idler bolt fastens to the timing chain cover made of thin aluminum, it can't be tightened excessively.

 

Guess I'll have to make....

some really good vaporware bolts too!

It comes pre-cut...

but don't worry, I include some krazy-glue so you can put it all back together!

But without the cut-away, you can't see how good a job I did on the vaporware bearings! And the vaporware crush sleeve in the center would never be seen. That would just be a crime....

Yes no need to exceed torque spec. As long as the inner race is secure the path of least resistance will take hold.

NTN bearing: 6203 LHA

I took a look at my new oem idler pulley and the bearing is NTN 6203-LHA
Hope it helps. Looks like VW/Audi use it for the same application too.

I / D MM 15
O / D MM 40
W MM 12

 

Alrighty then. An off the shelf 6203! Same bearing for one of the snout bearings and both front rotor pack bearings in our M45's, minus the seals.
