Brake checking really pisses me off, all it does is endanger both drivers.....
-
I've never brake checked any one because I don't like the idea of getting hit in the rear but I have turned my headlight (tail light) switch on a few times.
-
No reason to tailgate! Yea the guy should move over if he can. Though not condoning the brake checker. I don't feel sorry for the tailgater!
I always move over that's just the polite thing to do. But when I can't move and someone tailgates me I will slowly slow down. -

Anyone who brake checks someone else is as stupid as the tailgater maybe more so. I hate being tailgated, but would never resort to brake checking someone. Ain't worth the possible consequences. Move right & let them pass no reason to be traveling in the left lane unless you are passing someone. Justa my .02.....

Zero sympathy for tailgaters in any circumstances. Zero.

I always wonder why people get so pissed by tailgaters - as long as they don't hit you, what's the problem? Why get pissed? Just wait for your opportunity, move over and let them go by.....

^THIS
Tailgaters endanger EVERYONE around them on the road, by eliminating their reaction time. Because unexpected things happen, frequently. -

Except that's not when people get pissed, they get pissed when they're driving down the highway, where there are no pedestrians, no bicyclists, no sudden stop lights or anything else......not the reason.
I think people find it a violation of their personal space......that's my theory. -

I didn't defend the brake checker, and I don't apply that tactic. But if you tailgate, I despise you, because you are a menace to my safety and your own. No amount of rationalization will make me OK with your tailgating. You can't control what other people do on the road, but you CAN control your following distance, and you are responsible for it. Three second rule is one of the first things they teach in driver's ed (or used to be) for a reason. You need reaction time. Most of you have families who depend on you staying safe, alive, and employed. Not allowing enough following distance, anywhere except on the racetrack, is just stupid. This includes at MOTD. One groundhog runs out at the wrong time, and 12 MINIs pile up on The Dragon. Having hit a groundhog at MOTD, I know that this can happen.
There. I think you may know how I feel about it now. :cornut: -

I agree the slower driver should move over. This is my #2 pet peeve, after tailgating. :biggrin5:
But, unless you're headed to the hospital with your flashers on, no one truly has a justification to be in a big enough hurry to be a menace on the road and an azzhat to other humans. Take a deep breath and slow down. Traffic will clear eventually. It always does. Then you can return to driving at reckless speeds, like me. -
Yea I can't stand people who wont move over. Driving in the left lane is not the best place to be, you have a much bigger blind spot on the right side of your car. Where I live it seems people take joy in driving slow in the left lane. I still do not tailgate. As I said before in traffic if I can not get out of the way and I get tailgated I will gradually slow down. The reason is I want more room in front of me so I can stop slower if something happens. Yes it pisses the tailgater off but I don't care. I don't want to be run over!

It's an irrational response - again, I think it's a sense or personal space being violated - 95% of the car accidents are front to front.......very very very few are front to rear, and almost all of those happen at very low speeds, not highway.....
Tailgating pisses people off - no question about that - but I don't think it has anything to do with getting run up the back or avoiding an accident.
And Blimey, how fast were those 12 cars going on the 30 mpg dragon that they all piled up when the front car tried to miss the animal? I'll bet it wasn't 30 mph, that's for sure......so I have no sympathy for any of the accidents that happen when people do stupid things.
In the video in the first post, would the car behind have had any problems if the guy in front just kept driving along? So was the problem caused by the tailgating, or the idiot doing the brake check?
And BTW, I thought pretty much every thing has ABS these days, I wonder why the thing started gyrating like that?
