Perhaps you've got a lot of surface rust on the rotors and what you hear is the rust being worn off. Did the car sit awhile before you got it? Common to hear them, ah no.

A more clear description of the noise would help. Rust on rotors is usually a morning thing & goes away after a few stops.
Is the noise continuous?
Only when the brakes are applied?
Is it a clank sound?
