:cornut: They do make minimal dust but as it's white, it's only apparent on black wheels. It's also powdery and blows away as opposed to the 'greasy stuff' from factory pads that lasts forever. Jason
I run EBC Red stuff in front and stock pads in the rear, doesn't upset the brake bias one bit for me. Have a new set of (4) rotors, EBC High Carbon GG15HC iron for the front and standard EBC iron for the rear with the swirl pattern slots waiting in the garage. Replacing my plain frozen rotors this time around and adding brass guide pin bushings all the way around. I have had 2 sets of EBC green and 1 set of EBC red's on these rotors. Totally concur with Nathans comments on usability for the street.
03/2012 build cms all4 here after i completed the breakin, i did my personal "get to know the brakes" test 10x 0-100-0, max acceleration (no dragrace starts!) and max braking, trying not to engage the ABS, turning around to go the other way after each stop i found no fade at all, no change in pedal feel and the total distance traveled remained the same for all 5 loops at the end, i could feel the heat coming off all 4 wheels just by standing near them after they cooled, there was no change in brake performance from before my abusive "test" also, i have the 18" white turbofan wheels and there is no brake dust buildup at all, i did remove the wheels and wax them inside and out the day i took delivery of the car i am very happy with the oem brakes and since i purchased the extended maintenance plan i will be staying with stock oem for the next 6 years anyway, although if i was not happy with the brake performance i would go aftermarket, maintenance plan or not scott
Has Mini changed the OEM brake compound or rotors? Because used to be that OEM pads and white wheels was unbearable...
this is my first mini so cannot say, but my experience with the stock pads is low/no dust and great overall braking action i would not hesitate to recommend the oem pads to anyone scott
How many miles on your new oem brake pads Scott? Your opinion could change as the miles add up. Or you could be a guy who likes to clean wheels. I like the contrast of the white wheels & white roof.
as of now, just over 6k miles, 2.5 weeks ago when i had the temp sensor recall performed, the dealer did a quick "look and report" on my car: 6/32" left on the tires, front and rear (extremely happy that the tires are wearing so evenly, running 42psi front / 36 psi rear) brakes pads front est need changing at 24k miles (based on what i do not know ... measured wear?) brake pads rear est need changing at 20k miles no dings or flat spots on rims windshield washer fluid "topped up" oil at 1/2 from full (that is where i run the level at oil/filter change) no oil leaks present on engine and drivetrain all wiper blades ok coolant level ok i think i have an excellant dealer! i never clean the wheels or any other part of the car, my dealer offers free car washes for life on saturdays ... i go about every other week the exception to the "i never clean" is that 2x a year i wash and wax and every 5k miles when i rotate the tires, i wash and wax the wheels inside and out, along with the wheel wells and brakes scott edit: as i have the extended maintenance, it doesn't matter how long they last, they are covered for 6 years
I never ever let my dealership wash my car. You are lucky to have a good dealership and I hope they don't scratch up you CM.
so far so good the dealership is co-located with bmw, mercedes, range rover, smart and hyundai they all get free washes and i expect the bimmer/range rover/mercedes crowd is pickyer than i am scott
You'd be surprised... 95 percent of luxury car owners have no idea what a swirl is until I show them... Then you can't not see them everywhere. I'm with Dave.... I'm the only person who washes my car... And no machine washes ever.
Glad to hear all is well with your car. Your dealer sounds good. My dealer also sells high end cars. I will not let them wash my car no way. The thought of a dealer washing my car scares me just a bit. :eek6: :eek6: :eek6:
Update: I ran the EBC Redstuff's at the Dragon last weekend. R56 front / R53 rear calipers Almost-new WMW rotors Super Blue fluid I had driven the EBC's a few hundred miles on the street, taking it easy on them, to get through the initial "brake-in" coating. Then I drove them pretty hard on the Diamondback, The Rattler, and on the way to Fontana on Friday. Saturday AM I did a fast solo run down Hellbender to DGMR to finish bedding them in, they faded about halfway down Hellbender, but not a surprise. After cooling down during breakfast, they did progressively better throughout the day on the Dragon, Happy Valley Road, the Skyway, Wayah Road, and 28. Saturday night ended with me doing a non-stop fast run from Tabcat Bridge back to Fontana Village... 26 minutes. I didn't get out and check, but it wouldn't surprise me if my rotors were glowing at the end. Zero fade, consistent bite, predictable, not much dust considering what I was doing. They still had the new-brake smell, but that was about cooked off by the end. I took it easier than I would have with my AX6 pads, given that I'm still learning the limits of the Red Stuff pads and how to control them... but they were very impressive. They don't have the "binary" bite of the AX6 pads, but that's probably a good thing the vast majority of the time. They're getting quieter, seem very quiet now that they're worn in. I'm keepin' 'em. They're my new daily driver pads, that can also handle all the twisties I care to throw at them. Not appropriate for the track... but great for everything else.
Nice product endorsement..... I like my EBC Redstuff's too..... I only put the EBC on the front of my MINI where most of the braking takes place.... So the fronts are working harder than the rears which are MINI OEM stock pads.... I just noticed today that my fronts are cleaner than the rears.....
My reds squeaked a bit everytime it was cold until a trackday at spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. They were quiet after that.
I've run Hawk HP+ and Carbotech XP10/XP8 combo they both squeal like crazy on the road but their initial bite and braking power is like going BBK. They are right at home on the track and just like reds, go quiet when you get them to temp. they eat through rotors like crazy but, centric rotor blanks are cheap! I've paced a set of brand new oem mini pads at thunderhill and absolutely destroyed them, by the end of the day they chunking apart and once the pad hit the rotor, both the rotor and pad were done!
