Camera mount recommendations

I mount my vid cam on a bracket on the headrest of the right seat, with the Hero it's a little more difficult since you need to be able to reach the start button, I know a lot of people use the suction mount to the sunroof, but that wouldn't be an option for you....

I suppose you could mount it to the side window....if you don't have a passenger.

You could fab up a mount to one of the rear roll bar hoops too....

 

Seen alot of them mounted to the windshield, either driver or passenger side. Never heard of someone having a problem with the suction mount as long as the glass was cleaned.

 

I've mounted mine on my speedo, on the inside of the front windshield, on the inside of the side windows, on the outside of the back windows, from the sunroof (not an option for you), on the roof, on the door, on the A panel, on the boot, on the hood, on the rear window. Just depends on the shot you want.

I have found using the suction cup on the speedo provides a nice video out the front - you have some dash and hood in the bottom of the frame and road ahead. I also like to mount mine on the A panel so the camera is just in front of and level with the side mirror - just like the perspective it gives.

The 2011 Bullfrog Run shows what a roof mount looks like (you could get similar by putting the GoPro along the top edge of your windshield.

 

I have mounted mine to the windshield with the suction cup mount and it provides a good video with the top of the bonnet in the lower part of the frame. The tow hook mount seems to be popular and I'm trying it at the Dragon this week. I have a Coupe and have experimented with a mount on the cross bar between the seats. So far it has produced the best videos for me.

 

I guess a lot depends on whether you want the driver in the view too....a lot of people prefer that. If so, the windshield mount won't do....

If it's to study for driving, one would need to see what they are doing behind the wheel wouldn't they?

 

Yeah, it really depends on what you're using it for. If you're after the scenery, a suction cup, toe hook, whatever you're in the mood for, it's all good.

If you're doing and HPDE or some other sort of driving school, many (not all, but many) don't allow the suction cup mount--the camera has to have a solid mount (headrest or rollbar for example). Since you're in a convertible, I'm guessing it's probably for the scenery; a suction mount is cheap, and not a bad place to start.

I'm still going back and forth between the GoPro and the new Drift Innovation camera myself.

 

I've mounted to the windshield, bonnet (up near the scoop), and on the roofline near the antenna on my wife's R57, with no issues. It depends on the point-of-view you're looking for, whether you want the bonnet in the video, etc. The GoPro suction mount also adjusts to many different angles, so it's pretty versatile. I've never had the suction mount fail on me.
