Racetrack plans unveiled | The Columbus Dispatch So they broke ground the other day and this article seems to tell us more about what is going to happen at SPARC.
Mark Brentlinger, CEO of MAG. says.... He sees SPARC as a magnet for the gatherings of local and regional car clubs Now if they support it like they currently do for local regional clubs then the place is doomed. MAG did NOTHING when the BMW CCA was in town recently for their annual Oktoberfest. That is a huge BMW CCA thing, so if MAG won't even support that just a tiny little bit then whats that say...
They were probably too involved wasting their time and money on that new addition to the building. What is it, Volvo or Audi that is in the new part? And then there is the MINI/BMW lot that you can barely move around and has about 5 parking spots for guests. However, point taken, MAG has much to prove other than selling cars well above MSRP. I feel like they are just going to be a dealership on site and nothing else.
I should state that the issues I have with MAG are with management and the way they handle things with those that are enthusiasts. The individuals I have worked with there I have no beef with, Sam, Amber, the techs, Chad, Billy Ray and others have all been easy to work to work with. Just their hands are tied by the culture there.
Just imagine what it was like in the 90's when the BMW/MINI was the only location and they had pretty much the same line up as they do today. I bought a VW and at the same time they were selling a Bentley and a couple BMWs. I remember going in for my first service and a Ferrari 308 pulled in behind me. Of course back then they took us in order so the Ferrari owner had to wait for me, now I think they budget their staff to the amount you pay for your car.
I'll stay out of this one after saying that I feel that they have the best service group in the city....ying, yang.
Service side great, sales, not so much. The ying & yang is performed at the Kia dealer down the road.
Sports Pavilion and Automotive Research Complex (SPARC) Been meaning to revive this thread... I didn't realize Michael Waltrip Racing was teaming up to get this done. Kind of interesting.
I have a friend that works for MWR. He says that no one in their organization can figure out what Michael is doing getting involved with this.
Sounded to me as he wants to be in on track ownership. Sorta like Tony Stewart or Kenny Schrader who both own small tracks for fun.
