Dammit, until I read the linked article, the headline had given me this warm glowing feeling, but now I'm just plain worried.....

Is there nothing sacred in this cruel world?

And look - if there isn't a place where all the small fuzzy animals can live in safety, just don't tell me, OK?

Then a reference to Loudon Wainwright wouldn't be helpful, would it.

Where do you hide 30 million worth of maple syrup?
Its not like you can walk out with it hidden in your back pocket?

    Those shifty Canucks.....
In order to have a strategic reserve, they would have had to stockpile the Maple syrup.... If they are stockpiling it, that means they are keeping it out of the market and are driving the price up. This stuff is already too expensive as it is....

Now the US is gonna retaliate and start a "Strategic Reserve" of Aunt Jemima syrup.... The horror of it all.... When will this end????

The Canuck Mounties are planning a raid on Tim Hortons. They are gonna take samples of the Maple Bear Claws back for testing and testing and moar testing and further testing. Word is out that any police vehicle spotted at a THorton's.... They are not to be disturbed. They're doing in depth Maple analysis. This testing could take years and may spill over into the US.... The police will get to the bottom of this caper even it it means testing every Maple Bear Claw baked.....

I grew up on free maple syrup. My grandfather has a "cabane a sucre", my aunt has one but she isn't quite a generous.
I hope the price hasn't gone up yet, it's the Michgan MINI summer picnic Saturday, I was thinking of making my maple syrup pie.

Maple Syrup Pie Recipe at Epicurious.com

I remember having this as a kid in Quebec

Tire sur la Neige Maple Taffy on Snow or 'Tire sur la Neige' is the perfect way to end a maple syrup meal. First the maple syrup must be cooked to a temperature of 238ºF (114ºC). Then the hot maple taffy is poured on clean snow spread that has been spread in a wooden trough.
The maple taffy takes only a few minutes to harden. Wooden spoons are distributed among the crowd anxiously waiting for the tasting to begin.

This is my aunt's(the one previously mentioned) recipe.
    Maple syrup pie
    This usually yields two
I use pre mad frozen pie crust but feel free to make your own.
1 cup maple syrup(no fake stuff aka pole syrup)
    2 eggs
1 can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed(or similar)
mix ingredients, pour into pie crusts
Bake at 425F for 10 minutes, reduce temp to 350F for 35 minutes, top should be golden brown. Let cool, enjoy.

That's the 'light' version for suckers on a diet, isn't it? Have you got a link to a real full-fat version?

I have an idea. We should implement Operation Sweet and Sticky, and attach GPS devices to bottles of syrup....
