Do what I do....
If I can't edit something on my computer, I just cut a strip of black electrical tape and stick it on the monitor at the spot that needs fixin. Works every time....![]()

This is correct. The time limit to edit posts is 30 days.
There was a time when there was no time limit to edit. However; a certain someone got upset once and went and edited all their posts to be "." This left large gaping holes in threads as some of their posts were useful.
30 Days is pretty generous compared to many other sites. A private admin site I am a member of gives you 2 hours. Many others just give 24 hours at the most.
Thanks for your understanding. -

Ok, you're the boss. Thanks for the explanation, I thought I was just missing something...

I would vote for even a shorter period, 24 hrs to 48hrs tops.

I'm on dozens of forums and have never seen this before. I also run 3 forums, and moderate a few yahoo groups (remember those?) I understand the reason given, but consider the problems this causes:
-An ad post like mine, can't be edited when things are sold. Also doesn't allow the seller to lower the price when things aren't selling.
-An event posting can't be edited to reflect changes in details, who's attending, etc
-A group buy post can't be edited to show changes in the deal, who's in, FAQ's
Making the edit time real short fixes a problem for a very small # of troublemakers, but causes issues for lots of other people who need legit changes. -
Good points.

Is there a way to have an admin edit it for you?

Since this policy was put in place over a year ago there has been 1 request to edit a post. This is the second one.
When asked I have created a 24 hour window for someone to edit their post.
I have looked for solutions such as being able to edit certain forum areas such as the Classifieds with no limits. Unfortunately the software used only provides for a global setting.
I have seen a few people that are on this site clean out all their posts not only on this site but on MetroplexMINI, NAM and other sites. I would have liked to keep it open to edit by all at any time, but the childish actions of a few have caused me to protect the site overall. -

I support Nathan in this personally. I too run a couple local-ish auto forums, and would have made the same choice as he, given the circumstances. Thankfully i havent had to cross that bridge..

I didn't mean to turn this into a debate - it's another case of one or 2 bad apples ruining it for the whole bushel.
And as far as "ask an admin to edit for you", um, no. Admins have enough to do, I wouldn't ask for that. -
