Your MINI most likely came Bluetooth prepped....But you had to add the Bluetooth module and a few other bits....Most likely that was never done to the car....If you send me the last seven of the VIN I can tell you more.....

 

No R53 in the US came with a blue teeth package.

 

It ALTA work, but it doesn't.

Sorry I don't use Blue tooth in my car but one of the tech guys will be alongsoon to help you out.

It may be that you have the multifunction wheel, but not the bluetooth package. My 08 is the same way, I get all the controls on the wheel, but not all of them work. In my case, there are buttons for the phone, but only the stereo and cruise control work. Now I have a later revision than you, but I'd bet the same problem applies. Some kind R53 (your model) owner will probably chime in soon (and tease me for owning an R56 - you'll pick up on the slang pretty quickly ) and tell you correct info for your model soon.

I have the the BT button and I don't use it. I never knew it did not work I guess it's a "ALTA" feature from the factory.

There is a manual titled Bluetooth Manual for MINIs Without Navigation System, but that and the one for Bluetooth Manual for MINIs With Navigation System are for 2007 + models.

 

I seem to recall from several years ago that MINI offered a kit to make the BT work. Look here Mini Bluetooth Retrofit Kit

As I recall, it's pricey and the install is pretty involved.
