It is not necessarily a matter of "clogging." If the catalyst in the converter gets coated with oil, the nitogen oxides can't react with them, so the converter becomes useless. That's true of any car, not just an R56S.
I suppose, if the oil burning is severe enough, it could eventually clog the converter.
If you are burning oil, you need to deal with it. That's not normal. The converter is a secondary issue, the primary issue is that your engine is burning oil.

The catalyst can get clogged for other reasons too. My old GTi had a clogged cat and wasn't direct inject. My solution was really environmentally friendly. I core out the converter. The fault was the air fuel mixture was off and it got too hot. Mostly and older car problem. I don't recommend my clogged cat solution for your MINI.
