I've got both of what I don't need Dave. :biggrin5:

I installed and plumbed mine the same as yours Scott. No issues with it at all. Not much blow by at all... Guess my car doesn't really need it, but you gotta admit its a cool bit'a bling!

Well.... Checking the oil level doesn't take any time.... And ignoring the level will surely drain a 17 year old bank account.... FAST....

    Sooooo...... Check that oil regularly.....

We are all just a bunch of old guys trying to help you out.

Also for the record I am right almost all the time but I have known to be wrong maybe once a year. Even if I am wrong I will argue with myself to prove I am right.:crazy:

I think this young one will do OK around M/A, hung in there for the right answer and I think enjoyed the banter. :)

It will cause vacuum issues and you don't need it because you don't have the oil blow by and carbon issues the newer 2nd Gen R56's do.

Also you have the last of the R53's and the 2006 MINI had all the bugs worked out.

Oil catch cans for MINI's only became popular with direct injection cars because of the wonderful engineering mistakes that were made with the French 2nd gen motor.

I'd say that white residue you are seeing is from short trips in cold weather. Your car needs to be run enough to warm up. Short trips are hard on an engine. Go for a long drive & have fun getting that engine good & warm.

I'm so glad I switched from that other forum!! All the answers I got over there were from
Vendors who just promote their products. Ad not using the valve near the throttle body is ssomethong I've heard before, why is that?

Metalman is in no way and ass. He was guys trying to give a little advice that I and many other agree with.

For the record ALTA is junk. :D It's all in good FUN don't take things so personal.

:cornut: We sometimes forget that others who are new to the site don't realize that we old timers know each other so well that 'gentle, funny, familiar, badinage' will be misconstrued as in fighting and bickering. I started the 'Alta argument' as Dave.O is my friend and has had bad experiences with Alta parts, so on occasion I gently needle him. He is notorious for needling every one else but we expect it and love him for it. Please don't think that we are bickering and in fighting, we are lightening the mood and (hopefully) causing laughter. Comprende? I admire you sir as I also worked full time(40hrs/wk) while finishing high school and it wasn't easy but helped me to grow up rapidly and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. Metalman will and does say anything that pops into his cabesa . Don't ever be offended by him, senile dementia will also strike you one day. Now relax and enjoy MA and your MINI.

Sorry if I offended your 17 year old sensibilities. That was not my nor anyone else's intention. You asked for advice & we gave it to you. Take it or leave it, it is up to you. Lots of good folks here willing to help & welcome you.

Oh one other thing, Dave O is always right even when he isn't.

smokintires I see you are new to us, most of us are old farts and some are just farts but we are all fun. You just have to get to know us. Before you know it you to will be poking your finger in DaveO or Metalman eye and we will all get a good laugh!

By the way we did have a rash of Minis loss oil quite fast causing rebuilds for some.

I was planing on getting one. I have a R53. But I had the IC off to change the seals. The car had about 80K on it at the time. When I went to clean out the IC it really wasn't that dirty. I cleaned it out but like I said there was not much in there. Not enough to make any difference on performance. I few months ago I had the SC off to change the SC oil, this time it was so clean I didn't bother cleaning it(120K). Maybe if you are trying to squeeze every bit of performance it may do a little to help in the long run. But as the local Meth head (DaveO) would say maybe Water/Meth would be better.
I'm not a engineer but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Select.:D

Scott you really don't need one just like that Red MSD coil. Those MSD coils are known to burn up BCM's & ECU's.

I don't want to see you cook your cars computers.

If I were in you situation this is what I would do to clean all the crud and junk out.

Drain the oil you put in recently and check it out. It should have done some cleaning.

Buy some cheaper 5w 30 and a can of seafoam.
Next fill it up with the cheap stuff and add 1/2 a can of Seafoam and run it for a while and take it for a few good runs. A few days will be ok.

**I would only buy the cheap oil because I am going to use it to flush and clean and then drain it while it is still warm and within 100 miles tops.

Next drain it and check the oil for lots of crud and junk that got cleaned out.

Finish off the job by changing the filter this time and fill it with some good oil and check it like 3x's a week.
