^^^ Yes the condition of your oil can be attributed to short trips & how long it has been in there. If you can only do short trips because of your life situation you may want to consider changing your oil more often. Oil is much cheaper than engine rebuilds.

haha i got you i got you, thanks everyoone for the help

On the Alta note, the one thing i bought from the em was the intercooler diverter. the first mod i did to my car because i thought it looked cool. two months later the rubber seals on top were destroyed. havent since and probably wont again purchase from them!

and can someone still tell me why the valve near the throttle body is a no no?. When i first started researching i found the M7 and Alta one both had those two connected to a T fitting then going to the catch can. But i had only ever heard it is bad to touch that one. and the BSH only uses the one that actually has the pcv valve on it

.......and on a more realistic planet :)D) the catch can on an R53 will simply remove whatever blow-by you get from mucking up the IC. I dump mine at every oil change and I get 3-6 oz's of muck. I prefer to keep it out of my IC where it can get a bit baked on.

As to the proper connections, you need to make sure you keep those two vacuum lines separate as it can cause a low vacuum condition which will cause the build up of moisture in the oil. The reason to use the high vacuum line to the SC is simply because that is where the most potential for muck is going to come from.

But about the white moisture build up, is it most likely due to the can? ir should i be worried about the head gasket?

What you are seeing is a water/oil emulsion.... Looks like nasty mayonnaise...
Do what Crashton said.... Take a run on the freeway and get the temperature up and hold it there for a while.... Long enough for the heat to separate the water from the oil emulsion and it will vent as steam..... In effect you are needing to create a distillation process and the oil water moisture will separate....

Short runs are not letting the temperature get high enough to cause the two to seperate....

As one who has had a catch can for 8+ yrs on my R53 I can say with certainty that it is indeed a good idea to have one as there will always be SOME blowby. But the biggest concern is to make sure you have it installed correctly. If you don't you can and will get the mustardy/mayo-looking oil residue.

I have attached the correct way to install the can. You want to make sure that it is connected to the gray high vacuum line located under the IC NOT the line that connects next to the throttle body(leave this one in place).

Old pic.......no red coily-thingy anymore. I don't collect a lot of oil residue, but it sure does do a great job of keeping it out of my IC!

Cool, I just don't want to see you guys f up your great cars. Did you get also get rid of the silicone IC couplers? Those things are known to cause boost leaks and kill power output.

I know this because I had them at one time myself and had low boost issues. I went back to a new set of OEM boots and they seal better and all my boost leak have never returned.

:cornut: Change the filter and fill it up (4qts) with the correct oil. Observe the color and consistency of the oil on the dipstick 3x weekly. This with tell you if anything else is needed. Good Luck.

I change it every 5k and I use royal purple, the only reason I hadn't changed it was because I didn't have money to do it
