My car was in an accident a few months ago and when I realized it was going to take several months(!) to get the replacement bumper (Hamann) I decided with Detroit Tuned's help, to go thru with a total overhaul of the car. You can follow along at BlueMiniCooper.com and I will try and post progress here as well. The front bumper was torn off in the accident and totally gone. Thankfully it was still drivable so I was able to get it to Detroit Tuned without a tow. They have had it for about a month now and have formally begun the tear down process. The car will be repainted, lots of things powder coated and hopefully a few upgrades as well. Here is a reference photo from the last dragon: The new blue: As it sits now: Again for more details or photos, stop by at Chakik 2005 Hyper Blue MINI Cooper S It's going to be even better than before, faster, stronger... (hopefully it won't cost $6,000,000!)
Bumper fitted today and possibly going out for paint. To say I'm excited to see the finished paint job would be an understatement. Discussed some of the paint details with Chad and away it goes!
Body work is in full swing! Front and rear bumpers shaved (removed the license plate surrounds on fronts and the backup sensor junk from the rear) This very well could be the last images of it as stock Hyper Blue!
I was just taking to Chad and forgot to ask how your car was coming along. Then I see this update. How fortuitous.
Getting painted tomorrow. Stopped by Lafata Auto Body this morning with Chad to confirm the color selection. Still liked the same one I choose way back in November! All lights are GREEN! GO FOR PAINT!
Powder Coated engine components came back yesterday! They are much more gunmetal gray than black chrome, but I actually like how they turned out better than what I had asked for. More Images over at Powder coated engine bits | Chakik 2005 Matte Blue MINI Cooper S :cornut:
The car was painted today! Going to Detroit Tuned tomorrow morning for the dramatic reveal of the new color! I don't see a lot of sleep happening tonight ! ut:
