Filled up last night one my way home from hockey (we won 5:1 BTW). Chevron always has had 94/92/89/87 octane. Typically Spike skipped the 94 but always had his fill of the 92. Chevron was one of the few vendors to offer an 92. Now they're just the same as all the rest.
The Phillips 66 stations around here almost always have 93 so that's what I like to get, hopefully you'll find the Octane you really want soon.
Typical octane here is 91, but the BP stations have 92. I'm pretty sure a lot of it has at least some ethanol in it - only stated when it is at least 10%, this being an agricultural state.
Ioway is the same way. There are actually some small towns here and there with limited numbers of service stations where the highest octane you can find in town is 89. I've learned to avoid relying on planned fuel stops at locations that haven't been pre-scouted.
CA is mostly a 91 octane state. There's one station near by that has 92, and one that has 100, but it aint cheap! Matt
Like, race fuel... If your engine is not designed for 100 octane, you'd be throwing your money away. It is anti-knock rating you know, not power. But avoiding pre-detonation would free up some lost power.
There is a few 100 octane stations around me. I've ran it at the track and it is good. But too $$$ for daily use.
Both local tracks have 106 unleaded at the pump. That stuff just smells so good when you run it....but at last check was 5.50 gallon.
Slightly off topic, but couple of years ago I observed a gentleman in his EVO pump 110 Octane leaded into his tank prior to going out on the track. 100>100 I guess.
$5.50-$6.00 per gallon is pricey, evey by Canjun standards. I noticed the Techron sticker on the Texaco pump, I thought only Chevron carried that. I quite like the super concentrate Techron every oil change for my cars. Good stuff, yum.
He was either an idiot or probably had lots of mods and no cat. I've found for most Minis you don't get any benefit from more than about 96 octane.... But this isn't true for hyper modded engines. Matt
In the drag MINI, we use VP C16 race fuel. .. when you're pushing almost 600whp, every little octane helps. Leaded fuel is typically used in endurance races and usually in turbo charged engines... it's better for the engine but not good for CAT or O2 sensors
