Both the front and back 12v plugs dont work on my 08 MCS. I did a search. The search advised to check the fuse (F42) in the fuse box located by the passenger floor board. I checked the fuse and it was fine. My plugs still doesn't work. I swapped the fuse, just for h-ll of it and still no power. I pulled the front plug from the console and inspected it. The connector was firmly in place on the bottom and the wiring looked intact. I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks AXO

They only work with the engine running. Are yours dead all the time?

Did you check the fuses in the dc connectors of the power cords themselves?

Sounds like you need a test light or voltmeter and check / trace power source for 12 volts -- ie lift the console and put one lead on each of the two power wires connecting to the socket. It could be a bad connection or the socket itself.

It's still under warranty so I'd have the dealer look at it next time you have it in. I've never used mine but I'm thinking more about getting a USB charger soon and I should see if the plug actually works :rolleyes5:

You probably can get get away without completely removing the console.

I removed all the screws in all the cup holders and popped it up and tilted it just enough to get at the socket terminals.

It was very tight and was pretty frustrating to work on, but doable without complete removal of the console.

Hi All, I just got a 2007 Mini S, and I seem to have the same issue as AXO. So if AXO fixed this, let me know what ended up the issue, or did you go to Dealer? Thxs.

Same deal with my 07 MCS. Fuses all checked ok. I hardwired a RD into the wires just below the plug for the CIG, and that is working fine, so there is juice going to the socket. I suspect the socket itself is bad. My mechanic mentioned that he sees a number of socket failures and recommended I replace the socket. Bought a new one at MOO for a bit over $8 and need a free moment to install the thing.

Just installed the new socket. It's an easy job (20 minutes) and I now get power once again.

I know I'm reviving a long dormant post but is it normal for the plugs to only be powered with the key on or engine running? Is there a way to swap it to make it powered all the time?

It is normal for them to be powered only with the key on. I don't know if you could rewire it to be hot all the time. I don't think I would try to rewire it to stay on. To much is interconnected on the mini.
