    Fumigation Time

    Just did a 6min/5oz Seafoam treatment and will let sit at least 1hr. before scaring the hell out of my downwind neighbors, LoL! Will then use a mechanic's stethoscope to listen for valve noise and see if I have to do it again. Here's a pic of my high tech application rig that takes advantage of the BSH boost port. :Thumbsup:

    Great idea Dwight, I have always wondered if there was a way to determine if this treatment really works and did more than just smoke up the neighborhood, short of tearing the head down for intake valve inspection. You're thinking there will be a difference in the sound generated by the valves after the treatment. or something else?

    Good idea on the use of the BSH boost tap.

    I'm thinking I'll do my first one this Spring, but I have this nagging suspicion it's another one of those mystery gimmicks like "Marvels Head Oil" or "The Turbonator" or the "Gasoline Magnets" or "Copper Arthritic Bracelets" or, or ,or......

    Looking forward to your findings.

    This is no experiment, I've done it before. When you put the 'scope probe on the same spot by each cylinder all you should hear is a steady ticking at the same volume. If there's an irregular clatter then carbon has built up on that particular valve (s). I just finished my first treatment and 1,2 & 4 sounded fine. #3 didn't so I'm doing one more treatment. First time I Seafoamed correctly was at 30K and it took 3 treatments to calm things down. This one's at 12K and based on what I've just learned I'm dropping my interval to every 8K. Seafoam wouldn't have been around for 70yrs if it didn't work, but it MUST be used properly. BTW, no problems with the neighbors on that first treatment. Hope my luck holds for the second. LOL! :D

    Only problem I had with Seafoam, was when I put the rest of the can in the gas tank as it recommended. My ECU got very confused for a couple of days, until I could get a fresh tank of gas. Then all was well again.

    Where "on the same spot" do you use your mechanic's scope?

    Dwight, just curious, on the BSH Boost Port do you leave the diverter plugged in and capped the whole time (ie between Seafoam treatments)?

    YIKES! Let's see if I can answer everyone's questions at once.

    You need to measure 5oz. of Seafoam/treatment. I use a kitchen liquid measuring cup as seen in the pic. Take at least 5min. to apply. That's what the egg timer is for! I never put Seafoam in the oil/gas.

    By the "same spot" I mean place the probe in the same place for each cylinder. I pick a spot by the spark plugs.

    I keep the PCV plug in the boost port all the time as I'm running an OCC system. All I remove is one of the port plugs and attach the fitting and hose to the open port. Works really slick and no cleanup required.

    BTW, the 2nd treatment worked. #3 now sounds pretty and my luck held. No fire dept. truck in the driveway when the smoke finally cleared! LOL :Thumbsup:

    A treatment every 8K, practically at every oil change. Hmmmmm, makes you winder how effective that OCC is?

    No OCC completely stops the PCV oiling problem, they just slow it way down. Before I put mine on, I had to hard wire the turbo hot tube to keep it in place! The baffled 42 DD/BSH cans are pretty good at trapping oil mist, but vapors will still get through and gradually gum up the works. :frown5:
