Oh yeah... the Enquirer was wrong about Tiger Woods, too. Damn unreliable sources.

 

Hmmm. Let's see:

1) ensure no "deniers" can get their studies published in peer-reviewed journals
2) discredit any media outlets that dare to publish "objectionable" material
3) discredit any individuals who refer people to the discredited media outlets

Sounds like a recipe for success!

That's about right, that's actually what my Mom's most recent job is on a more local level. She works for Lockheed-Martins Green Energy Solutions division which sounds like some great scientific think-tank where they experiment with wind turbine designs that don't harm birds or club baby seals...errr, not quite. What the division actually does is look at new construction, then tell them how they can incorporate energy saving features that would qualify them for government subsidies and tax credits. As long as people think the world's about to end, she's got billions of dollars to work with. The money she can send towards a new mall being built would make Exxon-Mobile green with envy.
I tell ya, this green economy is a great bubble to jump on for the next few years, if people are going to be stupid enough to think they can buy their way to a greener planet, I'll gladly take their money.

 

Here's an interesting excersize....

Go get the book Denialism and read it. Learn about the hallmarks of denialist systems. Take the criteria of what classifies a denialist position and look for the fingerprints in ones own belief system. The results are startling.

And no, global warming isn't one of the issues that the author spends a lot of time on. Some of the topics he looks at are Vioxx, vaccines, genetically modified crops, bio-engineering (related to GMOs), and a few others. It's a very interesting read.

I learned a lot about some of the subjects presented, and I learned a lot about some of my policy positions. Some are now different.

Also, what do you all a conspiracy theorist when it turns out that there really WAS a conspiracy? Just curious.
