Perhaps we should get a few of us MINI5280 folks up early and drive for a visit.

Thoughts on a ride to Vail?

    THE COLORADO GRAND ®
This is a reminder for the Colorado Grand Concours d'Non-Elegance and to re-emphasize the fact that the concours is on Saturday September 15, 2012.

    Greetings,

We would like to invite you and your club to attend the Colorado Grand Concours d'Non-Elegance display on Saturday, September 15, 2012 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm at Lionshead in Vail. Yes, this year's concours is back on Saturday! This very popular event allows us to showcase the Colorado Grand vehicles for the town of Vail.

The Concours d'Non-Elegance will be held on the Saturday after the Colorado Grand completes its 1,000 mile quest around Colorado. You'll be able to enjoy the cars replete in all of their 1,000 road grime! The final details will be provided to you in the future, but we are excited to enjoy a new venue surrounded by the shopping and dining that can only be Vail.

This year, Mercedes-Benz and Chopard, Hyde Park, Hagerty Insurance, RM Auctions & WeatherTech are returning to help the Colorado Grand to again raise more than $120,000 for Colorado charities and communities. Founded by Bob Sutherland in 1989, the Grand is recognized worldwide as the finest event of its kind, leading distinctive pre-1961 sports and racing cars through the Colorado Rockies each fall.

The Colorado Grand is celebrating its 24th year history and is indeed proud that it has raised more than $3 million dollars for small Colorado charities and towns. Among its beneficiaries are The Robert Sutherland Foundation (combating bipolar disorder), the Colorado State Patrol Widows and Orphans Fund, and other human service programs. College scholarships are awarded to students from four towns where the event stops for lunch and the Grand helps these often remote communities to buy emergency medical equipment. The Colorado State Patrol provides motorcycle escorts for the event, and local residents pitch in to help serve lunches. The Grand creates an unusual synergy among automotive enthusiasts, the police, and local residents.

As the Grand's second feature car, we chose the Cobra and wound up with several wonderful examples, including the first production car (see page [DON]). We also have more pre-war cars than in recent memory, 21! Highlights include seven pre-war Alfa Romeos, seven wonderful Aston Martins, a rare Atalanta, four pre-war Bentleys, a pre-war Alvis, two pre-war BMWs, and a pair of Cisitalias. Ferraris include two 166MM53s, a 250 Testa Rossa, a 500 TRC, a 375 Plus, a 246 Dino Sport Spider, two 410 Superamericas, and 12 250GT variants. A dozen Jaguars include two C-Types, then come four Lancia Aurelia B24s-two spiders and two convertibles. There's also an elegant Duesenberg, four killer Maseratis (including a pre-war 8CM), and a fine selection of Mercedes-Benz 300SLs plus examples of AC, MG, Osca, Porsche, and Siata. Great sports racers come from Allard, Cunningham, Fitch-Jaguar, Jaguar-Aston, and Kurtis. Entrants come from around the world to share these wonderful cars with us.

To get to the concours, simply come to Vail and take exit 176 from I-70. Take a left off the ramp around the first round about and head towards Vail. Take your first right at the next round about heading along the frontage road. From this roundabout you will be traveling a 1/2 mile where you can park in the parking structure on the left just before East Lionshead Circle. The show is located in the heart of Lionshead just South of the parking structure.

Please let me know if you have any questions either prior or during the event, but really appreciate your support!

    Here's to another great Grand!
