I'd do the first one, because of the possibility of 2-lane traffic and small town cops just itchin to pull YOU over. I take 75 thru Cincy...not a good route, but not bad, either...just watch the speed limit signs in Cincy [even if you are on 71] and after you clear the scrum once over the bridge and into Ky and Ft. Mitchell...it's HEAVILY policed. Once you clear Ft. Mitchell, there's a nice rest stop just past the exit to the cincy airport. From there on, it's a nice drive.

Yeah.... 2nd route will definitely take longer. I took the 1st route through Cincinnati, it's going to be quicker and of course freeways all the way. One of the tricks is to not hit Cincinnati anyway near 8:00am rush hour traffic because of all those saps going to work in the morning.
2nd route has better scenery, but not as nice as on the Dragon. I'd be for getting to the Dragon quicker.
Sorry...... ewmjr..... didn't mean you were a sap..... all those other saps. -
Right - take 71 right through Cin.
If the bridge is backed up you can take 471 across the river then go west on 275 which will take you back to 71/75 and head south form there.
If you go through in the AM during the week - try to hit 71 & 275 on the north side before 7am - the traffic's not as bad then, but between 7-8 it's a bear. I do it every dayso look for me!

Believe you me...I won't be going through Cincy till well after rush hour is over.
If I leave Columbus before 9AM it will be amazing. Besides, it's short hop to MOTD, not like the 14.5 hr marathon drive it is from Dallas. 7 hours or so is nothing. -

Nathan...
I suggest you mind the speed limit while in the Buckeye state. They do like to give tickets.
I'm thinking it was Kentucky or Tennessee maybe, everybody drives way over the speed limit. You'll know when because all of a sudden everyone will start passing you. . -
Nathan, 71/75 is the quickest. Personally I like to go down through southern Ohio and catch 77 down to the Blue Ridge Parkway and then across to the Dragon. It takes longer, about 8 hours but some great roads. I figure all of those little towns are just more places to stop for food.

Nathan...
Take the fast way down through Cincinnati and on the return trip, take the slow scenic route. -
