It was a couple that beat me. I don't remember the name, but it was 2 people who had the same last name. I usually stay in a cabin with some friends from Dallas and they always had a stream of folks through the cabin for evening drinks and a good campfire on dry evenings. They had to bail this year for some other event, so I picked up the cabin and found a roommate to take on their room. I need to try and be more social this year in the evenings because my normal social network will be gone!
You are always welcome to hang out and our drive way is a perfect spot for the viewing the fireworks show. We don’t bring out own fireworks anymore and we did not have any last year, even though people blamed us for the fire works.
Come up to the Cigar Salon after the Welcome Dinner and enjoy a cigar or two. It's free, as I hand out cigars I have brought. It will be my last time there after 15 years of doing this. We are in the rockers and benches on the porch, just outside where the dinner is. We go from around 8 PM til the last people leave.
Thanks for all of the invites! MOTD isn't lacking for social opportunities... I just tend to be an introvert unless I push myself outside of my usual world. I've got a stockpile of cigars at home and I haven't smoked one in a long while (though I've kept my humidifier going, so they should be OK). I've also got a new bottle of Rua, a Charlotte area single malt, that needs to be opened!
You don't "have" to smoke a cigar or so at my venue...just being able to unwind after driving all day is pretty much what the Cigar Salon is all about. As for being introverted, I guess you and I share another similar trait: I can go to a party, sit in a corner and watch the world go by all night...and have the time of my life.
A dear friend started this type of thread many years ago......like 15 years ago! Happy to continue it! 332 people and 232 MINIs! I love that even with this many MINIs, no two are the same! COME ON 400!
Isn't this supposed to be "MINIs on the Dragon" [aka MOTD]? I've never heard of this event known as "People on the Dragon", [aka POPD]............
The emphasis should be on the number of cars and not the number of people attending, or the venue should be renamed. It's a MINI and people event, but it seems as if there is more emphasis on the people attending than the vehicles for which the event was named...or are we promoting a true "clown car event" [some MINIs stuffed with a great number of people]?
I have always said the Jeff. It’s MINI’s on the Dragon, not people. I don’t care if you bring 3 people in one car, we would only count cars. Barry started the counting people crap. ‘FYI - MOTD was an adult event with beer olympic’s and other adult stuff. Now we have to be all PC because people have kids that need safe places. eff that! Don’t come by my cabin.
All registered and ready to go. 14 years no skips. Looking forward to it and maybe getting there a little earlier this year.
Guys, come on. This thread started like 14 years ago to just let other MINI owners know how many MINIacs and MINIs will be down at the Dragon. This is supposed to be fun, just like the event and all the fun drives.....I heard many people say that they don’t even drive the Dragon much......that is not my thing, I have over 10,000 miles on the Dragon in my 2005 R50!
No kids at the Dragon, we are not your baby sitters. Plus we already have the LXM babies crying about everything.
Dave with your luck they will build a play ground behind your cabin. My son and I first came to MOTD when he was 9 or 10, but we came to drive. I do have to agree it is a driving event and geared for adults. I understand people have kids, I had 4, this just means you don't get to do every thing you want to till your kids are older. My kids are grown and out of the house and my wife and are having a blast together. I don't know if we will be at the Dragon with you guys this year. That 9 year old is now 23 and teaching middle school as he works on his flying ratings. So unless MOTD match spring brake at his school we won't get to come. He just got a Honda S2000 and we are chomping at the bit to hit the roads over there. If we don't make MOTD there is a S2000 event there we will go to (As the Helmet would be the lone MINI I will take it easy on them). If we cant make that we will spend our own time on the Dragon. We have made a lot of great memories at MOTD together.
