I'm on the waiting list. Not sure if I will be able to get a room there or have to travel back and forth again. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
Midnight on the dragon was stopped because too many people crashed and don’t pay attention while driving in the dark. Too many people think they need to be on a 2 way radios chatting while driving. ‘Look a turkey, a bear.....and a tree...crash” A few of us do our own late night (1-2am) runs but you have to watch out for locals having races in the middle of the night. The Dragon never sleeps.
Many years rooms or bedrooms in cabins open up as we get closer. I might have a lead, pm me and I’ll let you know.
MOTD drive sign ups started this morning! You must be registered first. https://www.minisonthedragon.com/ Also, COME ON 600!!!! 506 people and 356 MINIs!!!
The drives filled up quick. Some of the ones I was interested in disappeared. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
Yep, the good ones fill up quick. Luckily, additional volunteers have offered to give additional drives thru the years! Thank you to them and Barry!
Dave, you know it’s the people that we interact with, not the cars! Lol. The people help make MINIs “different”!
If the Thursday Sunrise drive or Donut runs fill up, just lemme know that you want to come... I'll make room for one more MA brother or sister... no worries!
If a drive you want to attend is already filled up and is not going to need restaurant reservations, you can pretty much go and follow the pack, because even though people sign up for these drives, a few never make it for whatever reasons.
I generally agree, but some of the drives have a planned lunch or dinner stop... as a drive leader, I have to coordinate with the restaurant to let them know we are coming and how many seats to provide. I'm lucky that my only real meal stop for my MOTD drives is a donut shop. I coordinate with them to let 'em know what day and about how many people are coming, but we don't need reserved seating... just a heads up so they can make several dozen more donuts that day than usual. I used to run a large drive (40-50 cars) in the Dallas area every year and the last minute cancellations/arrivals were a PITA as the restaurants wanted to charge per person that they prepare for... not for how many actually show up. You are right, though... for many drives, one more car tacked on to the end balances out with the car or two who had to cancel due to travel delays, mechanical failures or oversleeping after a few too many at the brew swap (which was almost an issue for me one year... the hangover from being drafted onto a beer pong team made for a very unpleasant first hour to the group drive I was leading the next morning).
You forgot my personal favorite: "Hey everyone... listen to this great cover of an old Hank Williams song, done by this Lithuanian heavy metal band I discovered on YouTube last night" and he proceeds to transmit the entire song over top of the drive leader who is trying to get 30+ cars through a busy area. My second favorite: The person who bought a set of GMRS radios the night before the drive and doesn't understand what "VOX" means, so they leave it set to 'on' and the entire run group has to listen to their Broadway Show tunes CD until the drive leader pulls over and walks back to check every car until he finds the one blasting Les Miserables at full volume and fixes the radio.
I took the donut run last year with you. It was fun. Thanks for leading. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
