So now you are pumping in air to increase the pressure on the downstream side of the radiator, reducing the air flow through the radiator. Is that a good idea?
Any extra air coming in the hood scoop, is insignificant compared to the size of the hole at the underside of the engine compartment that is venting air out of that space. Dave
Nope but then again the scoop is more of an aesthetic thing after the R53 since it was and is still functional on the first Gens. Its kind of like calling a F'ed 56 a MINI.:lol::lol::lol:
The R56 hood scoop is only cosmetic. As noted, the Goodwood edition is an S with no hood slot (it uses a closed hood from the MINI diesel model). The original hood scoop in the 2007 R56 S was completely closed. The plastic scoop insert often warped from the turbo heat. There is a 300+ post thread on NAM on this topic. MINI tried to address this issue by adding holes to the scoop (but you can see it is very minimal), but mostly by additional hood insulation (which doesn't help with air circulation through the holes). The MINI Challenge race car dispensed with any notion of using the scoop for cool air intake, and added exit vents.
Ahem, back to the original topic ... My brother gave me something like this a long time ago. I think it was called a "Fart Box." It was a big hit at the Thanksgiving dinner table. :ihih: Maybe the MINI version can be programmed, so you can hit a toggle on the dash and a pedestrian would hear, "Hey, moron - get out of the way" or maybe "Oops, sorry!"
All this technology, I wouldn't know how to use it...I grew up with the good old-fashioned whoopi cushion. Used it on my fourth grade teachers chair. No one ratted me out. I never got it back though.
All more of a reason to my headers and custom exhaust like Nate and I. If you don't know we are coming you are deaf.:eek6:
Real men don't need boxes to make fart sounds for them. As far as scoops go I've always thought of a scoop as something that brings cold air to the carburetor. Yes I'm old. The R53 scoop & an opened up R56 scoop both serve the same function sort of. R53 to cool the intake charge & R56 to keep the turbo from melting.
The R56 has a cold air intake that gets outside air from the front lower left side of the car. There was a Youtube video that showed a car on a chassis dynamometer. They tried all kinds of aftermarket cold air intakes, none worked better than the OEM intake, some made the same horsepower, most made less. All the aftermarket cold air intakes were noisier. Dave
Correct Dave most modern fuel infected cars pick up cold air from the outside. Miata guys have been preaching for years about how aftermarket intakes lower power. Lots of folks believe a loud intake makes power. Noise = power, if it was only that easy.
Id like to put up some videos of my exhaust note, compared to yours and Nates If yours is louder than mine :eek6: Mines the loudest in my area, kinda too loud, may have to find me one of those " Coast muffler" resonators. Put a glasspak on a couple years ago, think its hollow now  Guy told me last week it sounded like a motorcycle on steroids
"coast muffler"=coastfab...One of those packed with kevlar and problem solved. You won't blow the packing, and if you ever decided to change the packing for whatever reason it's a piece of cake. It's eventually what I'm going to do. Not cheap though.
It goes "Woooo Woooo Woooo" [ame=http://youtu.be/VW22yUGEcuM]Whistle tips go Woooo WOOooooo - YouTube[/ame]
I think someone recorded "My exhaust" on a friends Yellow MINI cooper a few years ago at the Dragon during the exhaust sound off. It's around here on M/A somewhere. I had my Milltek on and leaded mine to him when his exhaust rusted apart right before the Dragon. I found it and Paul ran the car slow so it was not as loud until the end. http://http://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PL8EA9B34F57F6041B&v=j_rdluCO7bo
Kids fake power all the time with noise but when I fly buy those Honda's with big fart cans the truth is revealed. Sometimes they ask if I have a turbo and I say nope it's stock.:devil: A good exhaust is just one small part. You also need an intake and a very stable well built motor tuned correctly. But all the power in the world won't mean squat if you can't drive it.
I fear the day will come when the MOTD get together will feature ecu upgrades.... changing the F56 3 cylinder sound to the F56 JCW sounds.... And F56 JCW sounds to BMW M5 sounds..... F1 sounds reverberating from the hills, with all the MINI's stereo's cranked up to 13.... Oh the horror......Where will it end.....
