Assuming 100/hr labor and list price for parts:
water pump - $180
Thermostat assy - $120
coolant - $50
Diagnosis - 1hr - $100
Labor - 6hrs - $600
$1050 + tax/enviro fees etc
$1300 is a little steep -
i'm sure a few bucks more added onto everything else gets somewhat close... but since i need a car and it's going to take a while to gather parts and then try and do this myself... i'm taking the convenience route this time and having the dealer do it... i shopped around and prices were floating around $1200... so it's not terrible... especially since i get a loaner... -
picked up the car monday evening... all the work was done... no warning lamps... dealer was aware of the check engine light i had going in... which was the p115c code... the tech gave me some information regarding the cel light and it's most likely because of the filter... i told him i'll look into it... i was going to switch out the k&n filter intake with the stock to see if it would get rid of it but since they had cleared the code... i wanted to wait for it to come back again... usually it comes back pretty quick...
so far through normal driving... no cel light... it hasn't come back... i don't know what to make of it... could the coolant leak, water pump, thermostat cause some irregular readings in the maf?
all i know is after the trip to the dealer to get a different problem fixed... everything seems perfect now -

I don't know. I agree with you. Leave the K&N in there & see if it pops the same code again. If so then I'd swap out the filter. Is the filter a drop in? I know folks running them that have had no problems.

originally i removed the entire stock airbox... then fitted a k&n cone filter to the maf... after a while it threw the same code... one more thing i tried was added a 90 degree pipe between the maf and the filter... it threw the code again... so i had given up and was going to go back to stock when i had the time... but ended up having to take the car in for the coolant problem...

If it was mine I'd put the stock airbox back on. Your MINI does not like that setup for some reason.
-
plenty of time has passed and i have made no changes to the intake that i installed... the cel has not come back... no more coolant problems... and i get to enjoy the sound...
whatever the dealership did... worked... -

Glad it worked out for you.
