Assuming 100/hr labor and list price for parts:

    water pump - $180
    Thermostat assy - $120
    coolant - $50
    Diagnosis - 1hr - $100
    Labor - 6hrs - $600

    $1050 + tax/enviro fees etc

    $1300 is a little steep

diagnosis was $120... and they gave me a clubman s with 100+ miles on it as a loaner... the fake carbon look interior is gross though...

i'm sure a few bucks more added onto everything else gets somewhat close... but since i need a car and it's going to take a while to gather parts and then try and do this myself... i'm taking the convenience route this time and having the dealer do it... i shopped around and prices were floating around $1200... so it's not terrible... especially since i get a loaner...

Good luck with your repair. I'm sure they will do a good job for you & getting a loaner is very nice. Let us know how it goes.

Sir Francis Bacon said many years ago "Knowledge is Power" and with this in mind I would advise any new MINI owner to seek out advice on this site. Many of us have owned MINI's for several years, different makes models etc. Some of us are into modifying our cars some way more then others. Some of us work on our own cars while others rely only on others to do the wrenching on their cars. Occupations of owners go from Military to Lawyers, Doctors to Mechanics with several of the Mechanics being MINI specific. Bluejae take the time to read and ask the questions, get involved with a local club and you will find like many of us have that knowing the little things about our cars can and will make the difference between just driving and having FUN. :biggrin5:

picked up the car monday evening... all the work was done... no warning lamps... dealer was aware of the check engine light i had going in... which was the p115c code... the tech gave me some information regarding the cel light and it's most likely because of the filter... i told him i'll look into it... i was going to switch out the k&n filter intake with the stock to see if it would get rid of it but since they had cleared the code... i wanted to wait for it to come back again... usually it comes back pretty quick...

so far through normal driving... no cel light... it hasn't come back... i don't know what to make of it... could the coolant leak, water pump, thermostat cause some irregular readings in the maf?

all i know is after the trip to the dealer to get a different problem fixed... everything seems perfect now

I don't know. I agree with you. Leave the K&N in there & see if it pops the same code again. If so then I'd swap out the filter. Is the filter a drop in? I know folks running them that have had no problems.

originally i removed the entire stock airbox... then fitted a k&n cone filter to the maf... after a while it threw the same code... one more thing i tried was added a 90 degree pipe between the maf and the filter... it threw the code again... so i had given up and was going to go back to stock when i had the time... but ended up having to take the car in for the coolant problem...

If it was mine I'd put the stock airbox back on. Your MINI does not like that setup for some reason.

plenty of time has passed and i have made no changes to the intake that i installed... the cel has not come back... no more coolant problems... and i get to enjoy the sound...

    whatever the dealership did... worked...
