My wife just called me to say that her 2011 MCS has an engine cooling fan that is running longer than expected, and the check engine light came on as well. Now, I know that the fan can run a little bit after the engine is shut off, but that CEL is really why she called. She checked out her manual, and this is the one that matches up to "car is still drivable but may have less power than normal" (paraphrase, I don't remember the exact wording :) ). And until I can get my hands on it, and look for codes with my ScanGauge, I've got very limited info to work with. But, does this sound like anything that anyone else has ever heard of? Anything at all? I'm hoping to avoid a trip to the dealer, since neither of us has the time to do that.

Not much to work with here. You should have her make sure there is coolant before driving and then pull the codes. The codes can be anything at this point, even a coincidence, though I'm figuring it's not.

Yeah, I know, very little to work with. I agree, coincidence is possible, just not very likely.

She did scan the manual page for me, and told me "it's the bottom condition". Well, that's clear as mud, because it's either the light is coming on yellow, meaning the full engine power is not available, or it's "indicator lamp 1 comes on", which corresponds to "Engine malfunction with adverse effect on exhaust emissions". Either way, I foresee the plugging in of a ScanGauge in my future.
