:cornut: Naw...........the first food group is Texas Hot Venison Chili. Along those lines I just joined the CSD(Community Supported Dairy) to get our second food group, Blue Bell Ice Cream from 'the little creamery in Brenham,TX'. The third food group is a combined group, Beer, Bourbon/Straight Whiskey, and Bar-Be-Que.

I let this lapse for a few weeks between the Summer and Winter programs. I'm back this week. What we are receiving this week.

Eggs - from Machester Hill Farm in Circleville, OH

Living Lettuce - from VanScoy Farms in Ridgeway, OH

Cherry Tomatoes - from VanScoy Farms in Ridgeway, OH

Brussels Sprouts - from Rhoads Farm Market in Circleville, OH

"Cutie" Kabocha Squash - from from Wayward Seed Farm in Marysville, OH

Apples - from Hirsch Fruit Farm in Chillicothe, OH

Norland Red Potatoes - from Slocal Partners in Marysville, OH

Broccoli - from from Wayward Seed Farm in Marysville, OH

Oh boy, Brussels Sprouts again...arrghh. While I do like them, I like them in moderation. Just finished off the past 3 weeks in a row of these cute little cabbage like things. I need mor bacon!

You need more brussel sprouts recipes. FWIW, they can work really well in place of cabbage in some recipes. Here's one unusual example, I use them instead of cabbage when I make corned beef & cabbage.

This weeks bag had Veggie Burgers. Being it was a record setting 65F here in Columbus yesterday I figured this was fortuitous, perfect for grilling.

Oh was I wrong wrong wrong.

I wanted to like them, I really did.

Not even my vegetarian friend that I had dinner with could eat them. Her dog even made a face when we tried to feed one to him.

Was a shame to waste such a good roll, a slice of cheese, a dollop of ketchup and a really nice grilled onion. Not even bacon could of saved these things.

These were made from Spelt Berries, Black Beans, Oats, Onions, Carrots, Kale, Beets, Blueberries, Garlic, Molasses, Apple Cider Vinegar, Kosher Salt, Rosemary, Black Pepper.

Never again! Give me ground up dead cow for my burgers.

I'm not a vegetarian, definitely prefer some sort of ground beast in a burger, but I have had a few decent veggie burgers. Despite the desperate and largely false advertising they're not just plant-based hamburger substitutes and if you expect a reasonable fake hamburger you may be in for an unfortunate surprise. It's no different than treating a burger made of fish (like a salmon burger) like it's a hamburger...not gonna work.

That said, not all veggie burgers are made the same. Some taste no better than their packaging and are best used as compost.....
