Has anyone tried replacing the muffler with something like a Magnaflow? I just can't, and won't bring myself to pay a grand for a Mini exhaust system. I haven't been under mine yet to check if there's enough room but I was thinking about something like the Magnaflow 14807. It has dual 4" tips and 2.25" input.
I seem to recall the F56 is not a straight shot front to back.... I'm thinking it makes a 90 degree turn after the rear suspension into the muffler and then the tips exit from the side of the muffler... My memory is a little foggy.... But I think that's the shape. Edit: Found this... Looks like they turned the muffler 90 degrees... Might not have enough room for the one you posted... Time to get the tape measure out...
If anyone one has a picture like that of a 05 R52 I sure would appreciate it. I have an idea for and exhaust modification and this pic would help me plan. Thanks...
You are probably right, the one I was looking at is 14L x 8W x 5H and the Tip length is only 3 3/4". I need to get it on a lift and do some measuring.. Maybe I'll just do this and put some tips on it. :biggrin5:
Or... maybe replace the resonator with one of these and run a straight pipe all the way back with a Y pipe and tips on the end. I was hoping someone else had tried something like this. I checked the F56 forum, but it's mostly populated with folks from across the pond and it doesn't seem to phase them to spend 1-1.5K for an exhaust system. A lot of JCW and Remus systems with the solenoid valves and such. I saw one that was interesting and asked for a quote.... Discounted price of $2300!:eek6:
The big problem will be droaning harmonics at certain RPM's if you don't do it right. That can be tiring, especially on long trips...
I just found this picture of the $1300 Remus exhaust system. Looks like the dual outlet muffler might work after all. Still need to get it on a lift and make some measurements, but this gives me a little hope for a less expensive alternative.
