Hirvonen wins a stage! My guess is he's pedaling fast because he knows how close he is to a podium on his first try. But there's not much changing at the top overall. It's getting a bit closer but it looks like that's only because Peterhansel is taking it easy, hoping to hold onto the lead by avoiding the mechanical and other issues suffered by his team mates. One more stage and little is likely to change without a bit of unexpected attrition... The Dakar is done and Peterhansel has his 12th victory! That's 12! (6 on 2 wheels, 6 on 4) Not enough fingers to count them all. Also note, the fellow Angib mentioned in the "trunk bike" (malle-moto) category, Jurgen van der Goorbergh, also won. Quads: Pastonelli. Bikes: Price. Bikes (Malle-moto): van den Goorbergh. Cars: Peterhansel. Trucks: De Rooy. Loeb took the final stage win. Despite his best efforts, Hirvonen was unable to overhaul De Villiers (he was only 2min 31sec short by the end of the stage) so no change in the top 3 overall. I'm wondering if the 3 litre diesel in the current Dakar Mini racers will give way to a similar, or larger, petrol/gas engine for more speed to counter the Peugeots. Though judging by how many times some Minis were rolled over, maybe more speed would need more track.
Not exactly a good move! https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLVyRAt2cxbxvPmS7gvzm3V_FfTCZ9N1p8&v=OC9Jijh18Qw
