Or just leave it bare metal for a week, wash it down with a pressure washer, and clear coat it...
Then you wouldnt care if you scratched your rust!

That's Chris but it's all about wet sanding, polishing and wax.
Wet Sand your car with 3000 grit until the clear coat is flat and all the Orange peel is removed then start the long process of buffing the shine back.
Ask the painter to put extra clear on your car.-
