We could help you more if you could give us a bit more information, like what year etc your car is....
Is it a stick or automatic?
if a stick, it's possible the shift cable popped off the ball on the linkage, you should be able to see it looking down on the driver's side near the firewall

Do you have a short shifter installed.
-
Negative. OEM shifter with just an aftermarket knob.

It sounds like the linkage slipped off like Minidave said above.
It rev fine but you can not put it into any gear? -
That is absolutely correct. That was my first thought as well. I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow to see if that's the case. Hoping it is cuz that sounds like the cheapest route.

Thanks Dave. I was confused.

Does the clutch pedal go to the floor and stay there or come back up?
-
Comes back up. Clutch feels fine.
-
^^^ That rules out a bad slave cylinder.

How many miles? We had a members MINI with 60K miles that the clutch just gave up right out of nowhere. Driving down the interstate and the revs just went up. No warning what so ever. Just like this case. Concerned it could be the clutch instead of cables. Our second gen cars do have some issues with them.

I had an 03 that had shift linkage issues. Sounds like what's going on here. There's two cables one for vertical one for horizontal. If you can move your shifter sideways but not forward or backwards. You might check your cables at the transmission side. If you have play all around but no gears check it at the shift end. The cables are attached with a small plastic clip and they fail often! Mine went one at a time and it was a bit of a pain. So I'd recommend doing both cables if possible. Good luck

Paid too much to trade this POS in right now. I love it but would much rather have anything other than this at the moment.
