I just had the most amazing sandwich made with "chicken fried bacon". The bacon and accompanying thin cut fries were fried in animal fat. None of this hydrogenated non-descript oil; real, flavorful, nutrient dense, animal fats. I live close to this restaurant-in-a-bar and never dined there. You can bet I'll be going back! Garlicy snails on a toasted bun with goat cheese, provolone, and tomato, are on the menu too. I've done belt sander racing. Stand on the belt sander, reach down and pull the trigger. This tends to be one of those activities that starts with "Hold my beer, and watch this" Mark
My wife lived in the great state of Texas, before I met her and always talks about the "hill country". I had to go to Ft Sam for a weekend and went to see it. Found a lot of small bumps, but could not locate the hills. Jim
chicken fried bacon actually sounds pretty good, can you hear your arteries clogging as you swallow it?
Dang...just as I was reading this thread my cardiologist texted me and said stay away from "chicken fried bacon" :mad2:
You should try LuLus in downtown San Antonio, great fried chicken and home of a 5 pound cinnamin roll. I heard it was on Man vs. Food. There fried chicken is great.
Sounds tasty, Just don't have lunch there everyday. As for the belt sander racing, that sounds like allot of fun.
I now understand how the food at Jake's can be so good, consistently; the man preparing meals is multi-credentialed Chef, Sander Edmondson. Fats have been much maligned in the past few years. Little is told about their positive attributes. I've studied and applied both sides of the issue clinically (degree and credentialed), and have been deeply involved on the savory side of their use. Stating the obvious, undeniably the best thing fats have on their side is flavor, animal fats especially. My first flavor filled meal there was almost spiritual in affect, it compelled me to share in witness to all of you. Every visit since then has been equally satisfying. Each batch of fries is prepared with skillful attention to the potato's sugar content, fry fat temp, and cooking times. The fries come to the table looking perk and celebrant in all their coarse salt seasoned glory. The pork chop sandwich is extraordinary in its juiciness, the Chef knows how to cook pork. The burgers, grilled chicken, etc., all have a quality missing from today's burn'em and turn'em franchises. For those of you planning travel to the area for the upcoming Hill Country Fun Drive, Jake's is located about a quarter mile West of the intersection of Hwy 46 and 16. From Boerne, take Hwy 46 twelve miles to the light at Hwy 16 and veer right, Jake's is on the Left away from the road. From San Antonio, about 22 miles from Helotes to past the traffic light at Hwy 46.
Probably not on a par for sheer artery clogging joy but any of you boys check out '5 Guys Burger and Fries'? Holy clogged aorta batman that is one tasty burger!!!!! They have a sign up to state what farm the potatoes were grown that they just cut and fried your order from Is this country great or what!
