I think Minimark missed that Angib was commenting on the Tyrell car.

OK, I was really getting confused there, as I looked at the pics of the Delta car and I didn't see where the rear set of front tires would go.....

So I still don't understand why they think this will have good front bite with such narrow tread, it seems to me it would just understeer straight ahead.

If they were going about it as most do with real new concepts instead of like the flying car that after years of talk...well, never flew then I for one might take them more serious. But this smells like a scam.

Remember they had all these computer simulations and so called experts sitting around talking about it too...

Heck build a scale RC model for cripes sake....

I'm also skeptical, but hoping it will make a decent showing. I love seeing people take risks with a fresh, unconventional approach in any field.

I don't understand the amount of ridiculing that's been expressed. This car won't be competitive to run with the leaders but I doubt it will be the dumb idea FAIL being predicted. The people behind it have a lot of experience and they know what they are getting into. Heck, Dan Gurney even won the Le Mans.

The shape, not just weight, is a very big part of the Delta Wing project. The original intent for the design was an Indy Car. It was supposed to lap Indy with its long straits at comparable speeds to the existing car. Let’s see how fast it is at the end of the strait at LeMans. Power requirement goes up at the square of the speed. I think the thing is ugly, but I am cheering for the team. I have several pictures of race cars on my walls, they all were game changers. Racing is a monkey see monkey do sport for a lot of reasons. When Miller came up with a front wheel drive supercharged inline eight cylinder Indy car it changed racing. When Copper put the engines in the rear, he changed everything. When Chapman got rid of the tube frame he changed everything. When GM engineering and Jim Hall figured out the importance of the bottom of the car to traction, that changed everything. When Colin Chapman figured out how to improve on the GM, Chaparral work, he changed everything. The only thing we have done sense is data acquisition so we better understand how to implement what we have been doing. Today it is not easy being innovative in racing for a number of reasons, but the rules don’t allow big changes. If Red Bull wanted to build a similar car the F-1 rules or any other sanctioning body would not allow it. F-1 has spec tires. Have you seen the Delta wing tires?

Another "here's what we did" video that's a lot of drama and show and not informative at all but at least there's a bit of a surprise ending.

I'm excited to see them doing well to this point. Really looking forward to new ideas showing up in racing. All the spec racing is starting to get old.

The bottom car has a much shorter nose, side "scoop" area, and rear overhang.

They also eliminated the fender over the rear wheel.

I'm not going to do a running commentary from qualifying but they just beat the target time (3:45) set for them by the ACO. They were running today on the same set of tires they used throughout the test day (minus a lap or so on rain tires), then switched to new rubber and ran 3:43.576, 28th overall.

I'm having trouble with the times and the time difference too Nathan. Looks like checkers flew at 8PM there which is 6 hours ahead of us at 2PM Eastern.

There are 3 quali sessions though -- the other 2 are tomorrow -- so, assuming all cars run during all 3 sessions, Nathan is right and qualifying is far from over; today's results are preliminary.

Top times by category after Q1:
LM P1 - 3:25.163 - audi sport team joest #1 audi r18 e-tron quattro (quicker than last year's pole time!)
    LM P2 - 3:39.669 - Signatech #44 hpd arx 03b honda
    DW - 3:43.576
(for reference, the slowest P2 time was 3:50.666)
    LM GTE Pro - 3:57.036 - AMR #97 aston martin vantage v8
    LM GTE Am - 3:58.267 - flying lizard motorsports #79 porsche 911 rsr (997)

TV Coverage is a mess sorta too..

    All Times Eastern

Speed will start coverage at 8.30 AM and run till 1.00 PM where there is a 1.5 hour break for NASCAR. Speed picks up again at 2.30 PM till 7.00 PM with a 30 min break for Speed Center. From there it looks like they have coverage till the end of the race.
