I'm thinking more like an emergency stop button, but it has to be spring loaded and light pressure to trip it... This thing is only going to weigh about 30 pounds and I dont want it to slide around trying to turn it on. It will also have to fit in a 2 5/8 hole. (Ican measure the depth from the boost gauge in the Rat, Its mounted in the same cup.)
Was thinking the vent would make the ultimate man room item. Painted with a Union Jack or the MINI Wing Logo.. Would be time consuming to tape out and paint but would be cool when finished.. and you know someone would buy it...
Lamp update... It's a little lighter than I expected, but there is still some steel to add... I was thinking 30 pounds, so far its 21.2...
So, you turn on the lamp by twisting the steering wheel in which direction and in which direction do you turn it off??
Still need to fabricate the arm to mount the switch Jeff, the wheel will spin freely the way it will be mounted though. Chuck, no airbag... Just an aluminum plate with a little graphic paintwork going in where it goes.
Update: The lamp project has been cancelled by me due to the amount of time it was taking away from other customers, and that customers generally bad attitude. It will be finished to my original design and kept for myself at a later date. More stuff will be coming, I am about caught up on the quick little stuff that piled up on me, and will be switching back to the crazy stuff soon. Starting with some more parts for Goldsmithy! And each custom piece will have one of these stenciled onto it as a signature watermark... Kristan @ Artistic Reflection hooked me up with a sheet (56) of them for painting her hood scoop this week.
This is a job I didn't have to do, because I am returning over the cost of the car to its owner. Long story short, its for Chris (the lamp guy) and originally this was written off as a loss, because the cheap Chinese plastic was melting with the thiner I used. But to prove that I'm not the HOLE he thinks I am, I spent about 3 days getting the body back straight and smooth and it's getting done and returned tomorrow along with his $50 and steering wheel from the lamp project. The body was yellow with a white roof and silver wheels, he wanted it to match his R56... Sparkling Silver body, black roof and wheels. The Sparkling Silver was done last week with no pictures, but today all the black gets done, my signature added to the roof, and then clearcoat.
Just letting the clear dry now, then it's time to fire up the hot glue gun and start reassembling everything... I will never paint another one of these, it has been nothing but problems since it was dropped off! Heres how the signature stencil looks before the clearcoat...
Almost dry enough to start putting it back together. The roof has a bit of dust and glue residue nibs which I would normally level and re clear out, but since I am technically paying him to do this, I'm saying one word and it strongly resembles BUCKET! But it does look good though.
Its done, and with the amount of stuff I had to go throw just to get it painted, it looks better than I expected. Sure there are plenty of flaws, and I didnt do some things I was originally going to (like paint the fog lights and side scuttles and black out the peeling "chrome") but DILLIGAFF? No I'm saving my thermite grenade... Never know when I'm going to actually need it!
